The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is seeking applications from qualified individuals to provide timely and efficient accounting and financial analysis support to the UPEI Data Control/Banking unit. Data Control/Banking is one of five units that comprise the UPEI Financial Services Office. This unit plays an integral role in supporting the financial administration and cash management of the University. This position will report to the Financial Services Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Posting of cash sheets, journal entries, internal requisitions, banking payments, account openings and budget changes
  • Ensuring the signing authority and access database are updated as required
  • Monthly bank reconciliations and month end closing procedures
  • Balancing the general ledger and sub ledgers
  • Processing of weekly cheque runs; international wire payments and transmission of payroll
  • Provide support and guidance to internal and external stakeholders regarding the university’s financial system
  • Ensuring internal control processes are followed
  • Year-end reconciliations, filing and responding to departmental queries
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of a two-year post-secondary program in accounting or office related course work with related work experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination 
  • Solid knowledge and experience with accounting procedures and functions, specifically in relation to bank reconciliation activities
  • Proven record of providing exceptional customer service
  • Excellent professional, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detailed knowledge and experience working with computerized accounting systems, spreadsheets and database query programs
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Experience with processing payments and cash handling
  • Experience working in a University or similar environment is an asset
