Student Research Assistant - Applied, Communications, Leadership and Culture - Faculty of Arts
$18.15 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
November 2025 – March 31, 2026
The GeoREACH lab in the Applied, Communications, Leadership & Culture program is seeking an undergraduate Student Research Assistant with experience in humanities research and data management to support research on transportation and policy history in Atlantic Canada. The Student Research Assistant will contribute to a SSHRC-funded research grant Assembling a City: Toronto’s Urban Metabolism, and they will be supervised by the lab’s Director, Dr. Joshua MacFadyen. The GeoREACH lab supports Geospatial Research in Atlantic Canadian History and other projects of the ACLC program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Read workflows and produce technical documentation and summaries
- Assist team members with data entry QA/QC and summaries
- Participate in a weekly team meeting
- Interpret and organize research results in databases
- Work with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a current UPEI student
- Experience with data management and databases
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to quickly learn and master various computer applications
Asset Qualifications:
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Knowledge of Canadian History (including Ontario and Atlantic Provinces)
- Knowledge of marine transportation
- Knowledge of food and agriculture
- Ability to travel to various PEI archives
