Under the mentorship of the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC), the Graduate Research Assistant will work on a teaching evaluation project. This graduate student position focuses on the coordination and collection of feedback from focus groups across campus in support of a teaching evaluation committee. It also conducts an environmental scan of teaching evaluation methodologies across Canada and prepares draft reports on these findings. The Graduate Research Assistant will report to the Manager, Teaching and Learning Centre. The primary work area will occur on the UPEI campus in the Teaching and Learning Centre. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  • Collection of feedback from the campus community and date on a series of teaching evaluation methods for the Committee on Teaching Evaluation
  • Organize focus groups of key stakeholders including faculty, staff, sessional instructors, and students, who can respond to questions and provide feedback about elements of teaching evaluations at UPEI
  • Activities to support colleagues working on the teaching evaluation committee
  • Compilation of current practices of teaching evaluation at universities in Canada
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS: 
 

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at UPEI
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Previous experience with MS Office Suite, especially MS Excel
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and time management skills
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be comfortable with reaching out of faculty, staff, sessional instructors, and students, to gather information for this project
  • An interest and/or background in teaching evaluation, education, and use of various educational approaches would be considered an asset

This position is covered by a Collective Agreement between the Public Service Alliance of Canada and the University of Prince Edward Island. Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students.
