Student Mentors (Up to 4 Positions) - Office of Academic Support Services
$16.00 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
August 25, 2025 to April 30, 2026
The Office of Academic Support requires Student Mentors to work with the Coordinator of the Gateway Program. The Gateway Program supports students transitioning to university-level studies. The student mentor team will support students through one-on-one mentor meetings and facilitation of small group tutorials on topics relevant to success in post-secondary education.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be part of a team of individuals who provide:
- On-going academic and transition support for students
- Weekly academic mentoring of students
- Co-facilitation of small group tutorials
- Progress reports to the Gateway Program Coordinator
- Mandatory attendance of staff meetings, training, and professional development sessions
- Feedback and program review to improve mentor and mentee experiences in future programming
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a self-motivated UPEI student, with preference given to 3rd or 4th year
- A growth mindset
- Interpersonal skills
- Excellent organization, time management and study skills/techniques
- Strong marks in the area of study and good academic standing
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Student-centred approach to supporting others
- Strong skills with Moodle and the Microsoft software suite
- Knowledge of supporting peers with disability-related issues and providing student-centred supports
