UPEI announces Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer
Dr. Kathy Gottschall-Pass, Interim Vice-President Academic and Research, and Jackie Podger, Vice-President Administration and Finance, are pleased to announce that Patti Wheatley will assume the role of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer for UPEI.
UPEI issues call for nominations for honorary degree candidates
The University of Prince Edward Island is seeking nominations of candidates for honorary degrees to be awarded at Convocation in May of 2020.
The University’s honorary degrees recognize people who have made outstanding contributions in any field of endeavour on provincial, national, or international levels. Whether Islanders or people with strong PEI connections, candidates will have extraordinary intellectual or artistic achievements, or service to society.
Walk With a Doc PEI
Walk With a Doc is a free event, open to anyone who would like to come for a self-paced walk with local doctors and other healthcare professionals. No registration required.
Each walk begins with a 5 minute talk on a health-related topic, followed by an hour of walking and conversation.
If you are interested, meet us at the UPEI outdoor track at 9am on Oct 12 (if raining, we will be on the UPEI indoor track).

UPEI Department of Music offers masterclass with trumpeter Paul Merkelo
The UPEI Department of Music, in partnership with Yamaha Canada Music and the PEI Symphony Orchestra, is pleased to host a brass masterclass with Montreal Symphony Orchestra principal trumpeter Paul Merkelo. Merkelo’s masterclass will give students of all brass instruments an opportunity to learn from a master performer and teacher. The class will be held on Monday, October 21, 9:30-11:30 am, in the Steel Recital Hall at UPEI. Admission is free, and all are welcome.

Island Lecture Series November Lecture: Shifting sands: Capturing climactic and cultural change through art
The Island Lecture Series November lecture features Charlottetown visual artist Brenda Whiteway talking about her most recent undertaking, the White Sands PEI Shoreline Project. Her presentation melds images and words to create “Shifting sands: Capturing Climactic and cultural change through art.” The lecture will be held Tuesday, November 19, at 7 p.m. in the SDU Main Building Faculty Lounge on the UPEI campus.

Faculty of Business alumnus kicks off UPEI Alumni Speaker Series
UPEI Faculty of Business alumnus Kevin Ladner, Executive Partner and CEO of Grant Thornton, gave the first talk in the University’s 50th anniversary Alumni Speakers Series on Wednesday, September 11 in Don and Marion McDougall Hall.
Ladner reminisced about his time at UPEI, and then spoke about his work at Grant Thornton, sharing some insights he gleaned since joining the accounting and business advisory firm in 1985 after graduating with his BBA that same year.
UPEI Music Society's Haunted House
The UPEI Music Society Haunted House will take place at UPEI in the Steel Recital Hall on Friday October 18 and Saturday October 19, from 7pm-11pm. This event is the music society's largest fundraiser with proceeds going towards student scholarships. Cost is only $8 per person, with a discounted rate of $5 for students. Guests can also bring non-perishable food items for $1 off admission price. All food items will be donated to the UPEI Chaplaincy Centre Food Bank. A bake sale will take place at the entrance.
