UPEI’s first annual Korean speech contest a success!
UPEI’s Asian Studies Programme and Korean Studies Seed Project successfully hosted the first annual Korean speech contest on November 22 in the Faculty Lounge in SDU Main Building. This speech contest was the very first of its kind at UPEI for Asian or international languages. A good number of students participated, and their friends and classmates attended to cheer them on. In collaboration with the Department of Modern Languages, our four judges were Dr. Edward Chung, Prof. Reiko Dolan, Dr. Scott Lee, and Dr. Jeong-eun Park. Congratulations to the winners!
- • 1st prize (a certificate and $500 scholarship): Amanda Sim (English major)
- • 2nd prize (a certificate and $300 scholarship): Yuki Seguro (sociology major)
- • 3rd prize (a certificate and $200 scholarship): Ngoc Bui (business major) and Anqi Dai (business: tourism and hospitality).
All of these winners are great international students at UPEI: Sim and Dai are from China; Seguro is from Japan; and Bui is from Vietnam.
This event was funded by UPEI’s international Korean Studies Seed Program grant through the Ministry of Education, Republic of Korea and Korean Studies Promotion Service, and the Academy of Korean Studies.
We look forward to promoting the Korean and other Asian language speech contests in the New Year. Merry Christmas and happy holidays—Dao!
