COVID-19 measures at UPEI: in-person classes, events, Convocation cancelled

UPEI has announced a number of measures over the past several days in response to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic. In-person classes, labs, and exams have been cancelled. All University events are cancelled until at least April 30. Convocation 2020 has been cancelled.
Academic instruction is paused from Monday, March 16, to March 20 to allow instructors time to focus on moving to alternate course delivery and to develop plans for teaching through the end of the semester. Course delivery will occur through alternative means—in most cases, this will mean email communication and/or online delivery through tools such as Moodle, Google Meet, and Collaborate. See the March 15 update for details.
The campus remains open for operations, including research, residences, the UPEI Health and Wellness Centre, Robertson Library, AVC Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and the Registrar’s Office. Please note that some services and hours of operation may vary from normal operations in order to accommodate changing circumstances.
The UPEI Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre closed on March 15, 2020, with the exception of Reactive Health, a physiotherapy clinic located in the building. All programming, including the Panther Academy March Break camps, and offerings such as the walking track, are cancelled.
All University events, whether on- or off-campus, are cancelled or postponed. At this point, this is in effect until April 30, 2020, at a minimum.
Convocation 2020 has also been cancelled. In making the decision to cancel, the UPEI Senate discussed options that will allow students who wish to cross the Convocation stage in the future to do so. Due to the uncertainty about how long social distancing guidelines will be in place and other University timing conflicts, the Senate did not confirm a plan, but is committed to work towards a solution to allow ample time for graduates, friends, and families to prepare.
