The opening of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Centre
UPEI student representatives from Nursing, Biology, Sustainable Design Engineering, Climate Change and Adaptation, Paramedicine, Kinesiology, Dietetics/Nutrition, Veterinary Medicine, Psychology, and Medicine connect their ribbons to form a "Shared Ribbon of Disciplines," highlighting the interconnectedness of health professions and the collaborative nature of the UPEI Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Centre at the official opening last fall.

Tim Walker, Vice-President, Administration and Finance, recently gave an update to the campus community about the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Centre, which opened in late 2025.

While the landmark facility is now open, he said, it is currently partially occupied, with a phased transition plan continuing into spring 2026. Later this spring, the UPEI Doctor of Psychology program and the Provincial Adult ADHD Clinic are scheduled to move into the building. As well, several general campus spaces within the building will become available around the same time. These include general student spaces, food services, computer labs, and classrooms, all of which will be bookable by main-campus users.

“We appreciate the campus community’s patience as we advance the building transition plan and, as with any new facility, work through the inevitable ‘kinks’ that arise during early operations,” he said.

“We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Facilities Management and IT Systems and Services for their tireless efforts in bringing this complex new facility online while continuing to support needs across the broader campus. Their teams have been working at full capacity, and we are grateful for everyone’s understanding and flexibility as we near the finish line on UPEI’s newest build.

He also thanked those who participated in the building naming process.

“The level of engagement and thoughtfulness demonstrated throughout that process reflects the pride and connection our community has to this important new facility.”
