Berry Genge named a 3M National Student Fellow
Berry Genge, a fourth-year UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) student from Lewes, PEI, has been named a 2024 3M National Student Fellow by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) and 3M Canada.
UPEI Convocation 2024 brings a sense of accomplishment and several firsts
The excitement and pride were palpable at the University of Prince Edward Island this past week when the Class of 2024 graduated with their undergraduate and graduate degrees.
The Convocation ceremonies took place in the UPEI Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre on May 14 for graduates of the faculties of Veterinary Medicine and Nursing; May 15 for the faculties of Business and Sustainable Design Engineering; May 16 for the faculties of Arts, Education, and Graduate Studies; and May 17 for the Faculty of Science.
UPEI’s Dr. Libby Osgood named a 3M National Teaching Fellow
Dr. Libby (Elizabeth) Osgood, associate professor in the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE), has been named a 2024 3M National Teaching Fellow by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) and 3M Canada.

Five outstanding leaders will receive honorary degrees, and four graduates will deliver valedictory addresses over four Convocation ceremonies at the University of Prince Edward Island, May 14 to 17. Over 1,200 graduates comprise the Class of 2024.
Catherine Callbeck Centre for Entrepreneurship opens at UPEI
The University of Prince Edward Island launched its new student entrepreneurship hub at an official grand opening event today. Named in honour of UPEI’s former chancellor, the Catherine Callbeck Centre for Entrepreneurship was made possible through a $2.25 million gift from the River Philip Foundation, a contribution of $372,000 from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and a further $372,000 from Innovation PEI (IPEI), and a $100,000 donation from the Credit Unions of PEI.
UPEI student creates species-at-risk painting to mark Earth Day
Paige Campbell, a Bachelor of Environmental Studies student at UPEI, is marking Earth Day, April 22, with a painting of species at risk on PEI.
Students in the Environmental Studies 4010 Public Scholars on Environmental Issues capstone course were given the choice to do a semester-long research project with a local community partner or a creative project.
The Honourable Diane Griffin installed as UPEI’s tenth Chancellor
The Honourable Diane F. Griffin was installed as the tenth Chancellor of the University of Prince Edward Island during a ceremony held at the University on Friday, April 5. She was unanimously elected to the volunteer position earlier this year by UPEI’s Board of Governors.
As Chancellor, Griffin will preside over the University’s Convocation ceremonies each spring, conferring degrees, diplomas, and certificates.

The UPEI Board of Governors approved the UPEI Action Plan: Building a Culture of Trust, Safety, and Inclusion at a special meeting of the Board this afternoon.
UPEI researcher receives federal funding for project to build PEI’s resilience to climate change
Dr. Xander Wang, an associate professor with the UPEI School of Climate Change and Adaptation, has been awarded a total of $1.6 million to investigate ways to protect PEI from coastal erosion and to build Island communities’ resilience to climate change.
The project is supported with a $864,226 contribution previously announced through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA); $619,090 from the Canada Foundation for Innovation through its Innovation Fund; and $64,410 from UPEI.
