Multicultural Choir and Song Circle

Now, in its 5th year, the UPEI Multicultural Choir and Song Circle invites new members to join its weekly one-hour rehearsal, Wednesday, 4:30pm - 5:30pm, in the basement level of the Robertson Library building  (AIRS/CMTC Facility;  Entrance to stairway from corridor/hallway before entering the library - phone 902-566-6023) beginning September 30th. The aim of the choir is to have fun, relax, and share the music of Canadian and international cultures represented by the UPEI community. All welcome! AVC hosts workshop about cost of pet ownership

Dr. Heather Gunn-McQuillan, Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Atlantic Veterinary College at UPEI, will give a community workshop titled “The Dollars and Sense of Pet Ownership” on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 7:00 pm in Lecture Theatre A. She will present information on the actual costs of caring for your pet including purchase or adoption costs; spay/neuter fees; vet exams and vaccinations; food and supplies (toys, treats); licensing and pet insurance costs, as well as the time commitment (exercising, training, feeding, play time). Everyone is welcome. Mathematics Seminar Series

Multinacci Numbers, Golden Gaskets and Fractal Trees Dr. Tara Taylor, Department of Math, Stats and CS, StFX This talk will give an overview of interesting connections involving the golden ratio and fractals. The multinacci numbers are introduced, along with their connection to the golden ratio. The well-known Sierpinski Triangle fractal is part of a larger class of fractals. The multinacci numbers are connected to these variations of the Sierpinski Triangle. There is a further connection involving symmetric binary fractal trees. This talked is aimed at undergraduate students. Note: the speaker will present at StFx and it will be delivered (Live) to UPEI via technology. MacLauchlan Prizes for Effective Writing Celebration

Dr. Christian Lacroix, Vice-President Academic, invites the campus community to join members of the MacLauchlan family; guest author, Dr. Roger Gordon; and recipients to celebrate the achievements of UPEI students, faculty and staff at the fourth annual MacLauchlan Prizes for Effective Writing Celebration. The awards recognize of the importance of effective writing as a foundational skill for academic success and lifelong learning and were established in 2011 by the MacLauchlan family to honour H. Wade MacLauchlan's contributions to the University and his 12 years of service as UPEI President and Vice-Chancellor from 1999-2011.

Nichola Goddard Annual Fundraising Dinner

This year's fundraising dinner will be held on Saturday November 14th, 2015 starting at 6:00 pm in a new location, the APM Centre, 37 Lowther Drive, Cornwall, PEI. The evening features a performance by Colin and John-Angus MacDonald of The Trews and raises monies for projects of the Foundation, including the Captain Nichola K.S. Goddard Scholarship at UPEI. This is awarded to a student in any faculty who is engaged in a project with focus on issues relevant to indigenous peoples whether in Canada or internationally. Plans are well under way for the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay For Life event at UPEI! The Relay For Life is an inspirational, non-competitive, FUNdraising event that celebrates life, honours and remembers loved ones and unites us in the fight against cancer. Cancer has touched us all.
