On Wednesday, February 5, UPEI will host a student career fair in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre. This is an excellent networking opportunity for students and graduates seeking employment and career opportunities to meet with local recruiters and employers. UPEI is currently seeking local employers who are interested in taking part. Employers will have the opportunity to meet with current students and recent graduates, collect resumes, interview candidates in private sessions, and more! The [loverly] Robertson Library is getting a jump start on celebrating Valentine's Day! From now until February 14, the Library will be selling a small booklet (designed and made in-house) of love poems. The cost is $2.00 and all proceeds will go towards the support of developing our poetry collection. The booklet is available from the Circulation Desk. We look forward to you checking out this small gift -- for those special someones in your life. This booklet will likely never be created again, so don't miss out.
UPEI staff and faculty are invited to attend an international coffee house on Tuesday, January 14, 6:00-8:00 pm in The PIT. The event will feature guest speaker Dr. Tim Goddard and musical entertainment by Devin Krauskopf. Come out and enjoy the entertainment. Snacks and coffee will be served!
The UPEI men's hockey team will take on UdeM on Wednesday, January 15 at 7:00 pm. This is the first of four games versus rival UdeM, with each game having playoff implications. Special ticket offers are available: Two adults for $12; season ticket holders can bring a friend for $6 (must be accompanied by the season ticket holder). GO Panthers GO!

This 8-week challenge is a great opportunity for you and a group of your co-workers (6 per team) to participate in a fun, physical activity challenge. The challenge runs from January 13 - March 9. Deadline for registration of teams is Friday, January 10. Benefits of challenge include a healthier YOU, and access to the indoor track and some fitness classes at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. Staff and faculty are encouraged to attend tonight's basketball games and share the following message with students: It's Panther "Pizza Pizza" Night at tonight's Panther Basketball games! The first 150 students arriving for the UPEI Women's Basketball game will receive a coupon for a free slice of pizza and beverage, courtesy of Pizza Pizza. Tip off for the women's game is at 6:00 pm, and pizza will arrive after the game. Stay for the UPEI Men's Basketball game, beginning at 8:00 pm.
Please note that Samuel's, located in the Robertson Library, will be closing at 1:00 pm today. This is necessary to allow an up-grade to the food services point of sale system at this location. Thank you, Chartwells & Ancillary Services

Join UPEI faculty and staff members: Don Desserud, Ed MacDonald, Lee Ellen Pottie, and Jim Sentance, on Tuesday January 14, 7:00 pm at the Confederation Centre Library for a public discussion entitled "1864: did it matter, does it matter?" This event is free to attend and is co-sponsored by the Canadian Studies Program and the PEI Provincial Library.
On Friday, January 17, Dr. Tess Miller will address the complexity of the state of mathematics in PEI. Her presentation includes interviews with a number of university faculty, teachers, and students which highlight key difficulties in learning and teaching mathematics. Dr. Miller contrasts this with what large-scale assessment tells us about the state of mathematics in PEI and its impact on PEI's economic development. The session will conclude with an open discussion on initiatives to improve the state of mathematics in our province. The presentation takes place from 1:30-3:00 pm in UPEI's McDougall Hall, Room 242. All are welcome.
The 2014 idea competition (the UPEI Nicol Competition) is now underway! Three rounds of competition and cash prizes totaling $9,500. The first deadline is January 24, 2014. Students from across campus are eligible to compete. Details and registration at: https://upei-nicol.fluidreview.com/ Further questions can be directed to Reuben Domike at rdomike@upei.ca.
