The Scholarships and Awards Office is accepting applications for the 1st Semester (Fall) Award Cycle!
Students can now access the Scholarship and Award Application portal by clicking the link provided here or in the UPEI Forms section of their MyUPEI account. Students are encouraged to review the four-step instructions and submit their electronic application through the portal by the October 1, 2024, deadline to be considered for over 100 scholarships and awards.
Not only can students apply to numerous awards through the Scholarship and Award Application portal, but there are also dozens of awards with a separate application process conveniently listed on the 1st Semester (Fall) Award Cycle webpage. Deadlines for the separate application awards vary across the Fall semester, and awards are listed beneath their deadline month. Be sure to click the links, review the award criteria, and submit an application in time for the deadline.

The Faculty of IKERAS will hold a meet and greet, including a sacred fire, by the tipi from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm on Wednesday, September 4, to welcome new students to campus. Students will be able to put their best wishes for the academic year into the sacred fire.
We want you to find the perfect workspace at Robertson Library. This year, we've simplified our noise expectations.
If you prefer silence, you can find it upstairs in the sunroom, the study carrel areas along the outside of the building, and the individual study rooms (320-327 and 331-336). These areas are reserved for quiet study.
In the rest of the library, including the entire main floor, group work and other "inside voice" conversations are encouraged.
Everywhere in the library, please use headphones or keep your devices silent. If you need to watch a video or attend an online class as a group, use a group study room and be considerate of your neighbours.
The UPEI Bookstore will have extended hours as we welcome back students for the fall. We will be OPEN from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on September 4, 5, 9, and 10. Our online store is always open. Shop anytime at upei.ca/bookstore

The Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre at the Atlantic Veterinary College will host an in-person symposium on September 13 and 14. The theme is "The human dimension of animal welfare: the intersection between animal care and the community."

This hybrid symposium will include a free public talk in addition to a half-day event that is open to the veterinary community in Atlantic Canada.
Thinking about climate change? Submit an abstract to "Turning the Tide: Island Imaginaries and Interdisciplinaries in Climate Change" before September 30, 2024. This third international conference on small island states and subnational island jurisdictions will be hosted from June 16-20, 2025, on the UPEI campus in Charlottetown and at the Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation in St. Peter's Bay. Local co-hosts include the Institute of Island Studies, the UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability, and the Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation at UPEI.
Turning the Tide 2025 is an interdisciplinary conference that is open to everyone. It is a way to share stories, thoughts, and knowledge about climate change in the context of the lived experience of islandness. Think about how your work and experiences on and from Prince Edward Island can find expression and connection, and about how we can highlight Canada's smallest subnational island jurisdiction across the world. UPEI President Wendy Rodgers and the New Student Orientation (NSO) leaders invite the campus community—students, faculty, and staff—to celebrate Panther Pride at a free BBQ in the Quad on Tuesday, September 3, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm.
The BBQ will feature great food, games, activities, music, prizes, and more! Enjoy entertainment courtesy of the Faculty of Graduate Studies! Faculty and staff can pick up their free tickets to the UPEI Women’s Rugby home opener, which is on September 7 at 2 pm. Full-time students always have free admission to Panther home games, so they don’t need tickets.

Students from UPEI’s Kinesiology 3430 class are seeking participants to take part in a four-week exercise training program, plus pre- and post-assessment sessions (six weeks in total). Students will create personalized exercise training programs for each participant, based on their fitness, skill level, and personal interests. Participants must be between 30-70 years of age. This program is directed toward individuals who are looking to become more physically active in their day-to-day lives. Participants will meet in person with their student trainers once a week. No previous experience is necessary.
The program runs on Mondays (3:30-5:00 pm), Tuesdays (2:30-4:00 pm), and Thursdays (2:30-4:00 pm) beginning the week of October 7. To register, go to https://forms.gle/drCp2HXHcvNTtdp29

Dr. Jessica Riddell, professor of early modern literature at Bishop’s University, will give the second Shannon K. Murray Lecture on Hope and the Academy on September 3, at 11 am, in the Dr. Steel Recital Hall, Steel Building, UPEI. Her presentation is titled "The Times are Urgent: We must Slow Down. Building Hope Circuits for ourselves and in community."
Dr. Riddell is holder of the Stephen A. Jarislowsky Chair of Undergraduate Teaching Excellence at Bishop’s University; a 3M National Teaching Fellow; author of Hope Circuits: Rewiring Universities and other Systems for Human Flourishing (MQUP, 2024); author of Shakespeare's Guide to Hope, Life, and Learning (UTP, 2023) with Drs. Lisa Dickson and Shannon Murray; and founder of the Hope Circuits Institute. She was awarded the William and Nancy Turner Award for Teaching Excellence (2011-2012) at Bishop’s University, received the 3M National Teaching Fellowship in 2015, was the recipient of a D2L Innovation Award for Teaching and Learning in 2022, and won the inaugural awards from Forces Avenir (Quebec) for Most Engaged Faculty/Staff Member in 2022.
In her consultations and through the Hope Circuits Institute, Dr. Riddell pursues “an expansive call for the reinvention of universities and the renewal of their public mission. Dr. Riddell is a leading intellectual on the intersection between the humanities and higher education. She is one of Canada’s most prolific public scholars on the role universities play in a civil, just society and regularly convenes conversations about how education shapes creative democracy.”
The UPEI Faculty of Arts established the Shannon K. Murray Lecture on Hope and the Academy in 2023 to honour the achievements of Dr. Shannon Murray, an award-winning professor of English and a 3M National Teaching Fellow. In 2022, Dr. Murray was awarded the Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, one of the highest honours awarded in Canada for teaching and learning in higher education. All are welcome.
This year’s NSO Welcome Week will take place from August 30 to September 7, featuring a fantastic lineup of events and activities to welcome new students to UPEI—from academic sessions to social events. Our goal is to ensure that every new student feels supported, connected, and ready to embark on their university journey.
The week kicks off on August 30 with Residence Move-in Day, NSO Check-in, a Student Services fair, and many other events.
A highlight of Welcome Week will be a free BBQ in the Quad, hosted by UPEI President Wendy Rodgers and the New Student Orientation (NSO) leaders, on Tuesday, September 3, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm for the entire campus community, featuring games, activities, music, prizes, free tickets, and more. During the BBQ, members of the UPEI Security Services team will be encouraging and assisting people to download the UPEI SAFE app. Everyone is also encouraged to download the UPEI PantherRec app to have a chance to win a UPEI-branded t-shirt, and to wear their UPEI colours and gear!

The UPEI Health, Safety, and Environment Department has coordinated with the PEI Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) to present an emergency preparedness presentation on September 4, 2024, at 11:30 am in Kelley Memorial Building Room 211.
