In July 2011, the family of Harry and Marjorie MacLauchlan of Stanhope, PEI made another leadership gift to UPEI to create a substantial program of awards to encourage and recognize student writing achievement. The gift is to honour H. Wade MacLauchlan’s twelve years of service as UPEI president and vice-chancellor, and to recognize the importance of effective writing as a foundational skill for academic success and lifelong learning.
The MacLauchlan Prizes for Effective Writing is the largest such student-oriented program in Canada. There are up to 57 prizes available for returning undergraduate students who produced outstanding written work in the previous academic year (September 1 – August 31), as a substantive role in their academic course work or for the broader community audience, and who showed most improvement through a writing support program coordinated through the Webster Centre.
There are also up to 3 prizes available for faculty or staff members, who have shown exceptional leadership in the development of writing among students at UPEI.

UPEI’s Department of Athletics and Recreation staff, coaches, and players are gearing up for an exciting 2015-2016 varsity schedule. Help kick off the season by attending "UPEI Panthers NIght at the Track" on Thursday, September 17 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Red Shores Race Track and Casino.
This is a great opportunity to meet and greet players and coaches, hear about the vision of the department and varsity teams, and enjoy a reception. At 7:00 pm, the attention will move to the track where 16 student-athlete ambassadors will represent each the horses participating in the first two race cards of the night.

The Department of Biology will host two presentations by Dr. Robert Huber, Center for Human Genetics Research at Massachusetts General Hospital, on September 17 and 18, 2015. There's still time to register for the 10th North Atlantic Forum, Building Community Resilience, hosted by the Institute of Island Studies, September 16-19, in Summerside. The program includes close to 70 presentations by researchers and community members from across Canada and around the world looking at how rural communities use their local resources to build healthy and resilient communities. The conference kicks off with a free public event Wednesday, September 16, at 7:30 pm, at Summerside’s Harbourfront Theatre. A “fireside chat” with Dr. Kelly Vodden and Dr. Sally Shortall focuses on the effects of globalization on rural communities. The formal part of the evening concludes with the launch of a book stemming from the North Atlantic Forum 2011, held in St. John’s: Place Peripheral: Place-based Development in Rural, Island, and Remote Regions (ISER Books, Memorial University), as well as a special journal issue of the Scandinavian Journal of Hospitality and Tourism, arising from the North Atlantic Forum 2013, held in Holar, Iceland.

Both the signed hard copy and electronic protocol submission must be submitted by the deadline date.
- Submit one copy of original protocol with signature to AVC - North Annex, Biomedical Sciences Dept., Rm 2302
- Submit an electronic copy to animalcare@upei.ca
Those protocols received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month.
The Committee requires at least one month for processing applications.
