Dr. Megan MacLellan will interview for the open, tenure-track faculty position in radiology & diagnostic imaging in the Department of Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College. Dr. MacLellan graduated from AVC in 2011; completed an internship at Tufts Veterinary Emergency & Treatment Specialists and is now completing a Medical Imaging Residency program at the University of Minnesota. As part of the interview process, Dr. MacLellan has been asked to present a 50-minute lecture suitable for 3rd year DVM students on Friday, January 30 at 12:30 pm in AVC, Lecture Theatre A. The title of her presentation is: “Equine Imaging: Common Diseases.” Any interested faculty and staff are invited to attend. A copy of her CV and letter of application will be available from Laurel Fisher (fisher@upei.ca) in the Department of Companion Animals.
Alyssa Grunwald, Department of Biomedical Sciences will present a seminar called "Discovery of tetramic acid containing compounds from two Tolypocladium sp. isolated from Frobisher Bay" on Tuesday, February 3 at 3:30 pm in AVC Lecture Theatre C. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The UPEI Charity Club invites the campus community to the showing of Ryan’s Well, on Wednesday, February 4 from 2:00–3:30 pm in K.C. Irving Chemistry Centre, room 104, in celebration of UPEI's International Development Week. "Ryan's Well" is an inspirational story about a boy who was determined to make a difference in the lives of the people living Angolo, Uganda. Through Ryan Hreljac’s fundraising efforts, thousands of dollars was raised to build a well for the village. This documentary follows Ryan’s story from his first conversations with his Ugandan pen pal to the day he visited Angolo and saw the well for the first time. Refreshments will be provided! All are welcome to attend.
The 2015 theme of this year’s IDW week is “We Make a Difference.” Join the campus community in learning about how UPEI students, staff, and faculty make a difference through their work and studies, and how you can make a difference abroad or in your community. AVC faculty Dr. Shauna Richards, and Dr. Crawford Revie will host the third set of presentations in the Brown Bag Lunch Series, on Wednesday, February 4 at 11:30 am in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building. Dr. Richards's presentation is titled “Improving Dairy Farming in Kenya,” and will be followed by Dr. Revie's presentation titled “What relevance does Big Data have to health care in developing economies?” Light refreshments will be provided, and a door prize will be given out to one lucky attendee! Dr. Johanna Wolf, Associate Professor for the School of Environment and Sustainability at Royal Roads University, British Columbia, is a candidate for UPEI's new Canada Research Chair in Sustainability, Resilience, and Island Contexts. Dr. Wolf will make two presentations, both of which will open to the campus and research communities. A general presentation, entitled “Better off or Worse for Wear: Sustainability and Resilience Through Climate Adaptation," will take place on February 9, 10:30–11:30 am in AVC Lecture Theatre A. A technical presentation, entitled “Connect, Collaborate, Co-produce: Shaping Climate Change Adaptation to Foster Island Resilience and Sustainability," will take place on February 10, 2:00–3:00 pm, in AVC Lecture Theatre A. A reception will follow each presentation in the McCain Foundation Learning Commons at AVC. All are welcome to attend. Dr. Wolf’s CV is available at the reserve desk, Robertson Library. Have you signed up to receive your electronic T4 slip? If you completed the consent form for the 2013 tax year, you will automatically receive your 2014 tax slip electronically. There is no need to complete the consent form again. New consents must be received no later than January 30, 2015. Online tax slips will be available, through Campus Login, to current and former employees, who received taxable earnings or benefits in 2014. Online T4s are official tax slips accepted by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). However, CRA requires employees to give their consent in order to access their tax slips electronically. Your consent will be valid for all subsequent tax years. New employees can grant consent for online T4s after they have received their first pay cheque. Employees who do not provide consent will have their 2014 T4s mailed to the address on file no later than February 28, 2015. Electronic T4s will be available sooner than the printed versions due to a lesser processing time. The consent form can be accessed through Campus Login: https://secure.upei.ca/cls/login.html. The consent form must be completed by January 30, 2015, in order to receive your 2014 T4 slip electronically.

After 35 years of service to the University of Prince Edward Island, Dr. Philip G. Davis retired this month. The Department of Pathology and Microbiology has two candidates for Adjunct Graduate Faculty who will be presenting on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 10:30 and 11:15 am in room 287N, AVC McCain Learning Commons. The first candidate is Huimin Xu, Research Scientist, with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. His seminar is titled "Regulatory Testing of Potato Viruses - Situation Today and Future Development." His seminar will start at 10:30 am. The second candidate is Tiago Hori, Post Doctoral Fellow, with the Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada. His seminar is titled "Bioinformatics: Powering Discovery From Genomics Data" and will follow at 11:15 am. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Research on Tap returns for its sixth season of public discussion, debate, and ideas presented by researchers from the University of Prince Edward Island. Join our next conversation on Monday, February 2 at 7 pm at the Haviland Club in Charlottetown. Dr. John McIntyre, an associate professor in the department of English, will lead a discussion entitled: "Beyond Flanders Fields: Representing the Great War in Literature and Culture." The 2014/2015 season of Research on Tap is presented in cooperation with the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), Atlantic Chapter. The RSC is Canada’s national academy and is the senior national body of distinguished scholars, artists, and scientists. Research on Tap meets the first Monday of every month from October to April.
