There will be a free CNIB eye-safety session June 25 at 9 am in the NRC
lecture theatre.
Presenter: Clarissa Harris LeBreton, Coordinator, Vision Health Promotion and Marketing
Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), PE, NS, NB
Every 12 minutes someone in Canada develops significant
vision loss. The result of such a staggering statistic is significant costs
to government, communities and businesses. And in 20 years from now, the
number of Canadians with blindness or partial sign will grow by 100
percent. At CNIB, our focus is on diminishing those numbers by ensuring we
play a fundamental role in eye safety and prevention. We know that 100
per cent of eye injuries are preventable.
Who should attend: anyone who is exposed to eye hazards such as anyone
who works in a lab or near chemicals or with particulate matter, Facilities
Management employees, etc.
Outline: The eye safety session will be delivered by a trained
facilitator - Clarissa - who will provide the audience with a first-hand
account about the realities associated with vision loss and the need to
protect our eyes.
CNIB has developed a highly visual presentation to show eye injuries
resulting from a range of workplace and recreational situations.
Please pre-register for this session with: Rylie Cole, rcole@upei.ca.
