UPEI holds first annual raising of the Flag of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Members of the campus community joined Dr. Greg Keefe, UPEI’s interim president and vice-chancellor, and UPEI student Antwaun Rolle to witness the first annual raising of the Flag of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at UPEI in observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3. The flag raising took place on November 30 at 12 noon at the flag plaza near Kelley Memorial Building. 

Alaere Peterside and Noah Sedore named UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week

Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week for November 27–December 3 are Alaere Peterside (track and field) and Noah Sedore (men’s hockey).

Peterside is a first-year science student from Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She cleared a height of 1.68 metres in the high jump at the Athletics Nova Scotia Last Chance Meet on December 2. The jump set a PEI provincial and UPEI record and is also the highest jump in U SPORTS so far this season.

UPEI Choral Concert

On Thursday, December 7 at 7:30 pm, the UPEI Concert Choir, SSA Vocal Ensemble and Chamber Singers will perform a Christmas-themed choral concert.

Led by Sung Ha Shin-Bouey, the ensembles will perform alongside guest musicians Leo Marchildon (piano), Sean Kemp and Zoe Sullivan (violins), Jeffrey Bazett-Jones (viola), and Natalie Williams Calhoun (cello). Several choral favourites are featured on the program, including Vivaldi’s Gloria.

Candlelight Vigil in memory and honour of the victims of the Montreal massacre

The UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering invites the campus community to a candlelight vigil on Wednesday, December 6, at the Academic Staircase, to honour those who lost their lives or were injured in an act of violent misogyny on December 6, 1989 at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal. The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women provides an opportunity to commemorate the 14 women who were killed that day and the lives of all of those who have died as a result of gender-based violence.
