UPEI nursing professor conducting research to connect families with critically ill relatives during off-Island transfers
Dr. Margie Burns, an assistant professor with the UPEI Faculty of Nursing, is conducting a research project about communication between paramedics and the relatives of critically ill patients when the patient is being transferred off-Island for advanced critical care services.
Her goal is to determine the feasibility of an indirect communication intervention whereby transferring paramedics will provide information to family members at two points during off-Island patient transfers.

The vigil was also an opportunity to remember the 10 women murdered on PEI since 1989 by someone who knew them, and murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls in Canada.

"My 'expertise' is a willingness to learn and engage in solving real-world challenges."
What brought you to UPEI? Why did you choose to teach here?
I grew up in Guelph, Ontario and before learning about the UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE), I was uncertain whether I would want to work in academia. My interests are diverse, so I struggled to see a fit in many of the traditional engineering schools that use departments to divide engineering teaching and research into specific disciplines.
