UPEI and Holland College sign degree pathway agreements
Holland College and the University of Prince Edward Island have signed 22 degree pathway agreements to enable graduates from Holland College to pursue their educational goals seamlessly and obtain a degree from UPEI. The continued collaboration provides students with the opportunity to continue their studies on P.E.I. by beginning their studies at one institution and finishing at the other, receiving credit for their college diploma.
National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women, December 6
December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women in Canada. Established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada, this day marks the anniversary of the murders in 1989 of 14 young women at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal. On December 6, we remember: Geneviève Bergeron, Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Maryse Laganière, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Michèle Richard, Annie St-Arneault, Annie Turcotte, and Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz.

AVC student earns a first-place prize in AVMA Animal Welfare Assessment Contest
Congratulations to Karen Yetman, AVC Class of 2023, who placed first in the veterinary division of the 20th annual American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Animal Welfare Assessment Contest, which took place virtually on November 20 and 21.
Hosted by the AVMA and North Carolina State University, the contest involved 176 participants, representing 32 universities and seven countries, who completed online assessments of the welfare of animals in different settings. Yetman finished first out of 46 students who competed in the veterinary division.
2021 Winter Academic Semester begins for the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
The UPEI Senate met and passed a motion on November 25, 2020, to change the starting date of the 2021 Winter Academic Semester to provide additional time to students for their health and wellness. The Senate decided unanimously that the UPEI Winter 2021 Academic Semester will begin on January 11, 2021, for students in the Faculties of Arts, Business, Education, Graduate Studies, Nursing, Science, and Sustainable Design Engineering. Other academic calendar dates will be adjusted as required; the last day of the semester will remain April 26, 2021.

UPEI extends condolences on the passing of Dr. Hung Min "Min" Chiang
The UPEI community extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Hung Min "Min" Chiang, retired professor of psychology, who passed away suddenly on November 24, 2020 at his home in Stratford, PEI. Dr. Chiang loved nature and was "a man of many hobbies", including writing. In 2006, he published the book, "Chinese Islanders: Making a Life in the New World", in which he brought the powerful stories of the early Chinese settlers on PEI to life.
