Calling all L.M. Montgomery fans: Share your origin stories!
A scholarly project is seeking personal “origin stories” from fans of iconic Island writer L.M. Montgomery. Co-led by Dr. Kate Scarth, UPEI’s Chair of L.M. Montgomery Studies and Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture, and tenured professor turned writer Dr. Trinna S. Frever, the project aims to gather fans’ stories about their Montgomery experiences, including how they first encountered the author’s work, as well as information about themselves and their reading and/or viewing.
UPEI women’s hockey adds Mount Academy’s all-time points leader Sophie Bujold
Bruce Donaldson, head coach of UPEI’s women’s hockey team, has recruited Sophie Bujold, of Riverview, New Brunswick, to play for the Panthers.
Bujold’s hockey resumé is easy to get excited about, as she is a proven scoring threat. In the last two seasons with the Mount Academy Saints, the 18-year-old compiled 102 points in 95 games. It is no wonder Donaldson decided to pursue the skilled forward.
UPEI men’s soccer recruits Kasper Lasia
UPEI men’s soccer coach Lewis Page may have found his midfielder of the future in Ottawa native Kasper Lasia. Lasia joins a team that suddenly became young at a pivotal position now that Ignacio Sanchez and Lucas Ross have graduated, but Page is confident in the young footballer. “Kasper is a real box-to-box midfielder,” he said. “He’s good in the air, he can defend, and he’s an excellent passer of the ball.” |
Let’s celebrate the UPEI Class of 2020, May 15!
The Class of 2020 from the University of Prince Edward Island is one for the history books. The 2019–2020 academic year began with celebrating UPEI’s 50th anniversary and ended in the midst of a global pandemic which kept students, faculty, and staff physically apart. Graduating students persevered. They put in the work; they gave their time, they demonstrated their intelligence and creativity, and they succeeded!

Take a bow, Joel
His was not the typical path to the NHL. But then again, Joel Ward is not a typical hockey player.
UPEI salutes one of its finest as Ward retires from his career as a player in the NHL. Ward is hanging up his skates after an impressive 726 games with the Minnesota Wild, the Nashville Predators, the Washington Capitals, and finally the San Jose Sharks. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from UPEI in 2006 and was named an Inspiring Young Alumni in 2016.
