More than the sum of its parts: Collaborative research team grows big ideas

Dr. Ali Ahmadi and Dr. Russell Kerr aren’t the most obvious in research colleagues. Dr. Ahmadi is an assistant professor in UPEI’s Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering with a specialty in micro-fabrication. Dr. Kerr is a professor in the Departments of Chemistry and Biomedical Science with a long history of discovering and producing novel bioactive compounds from marine sources. When the two met in 2017 at a BioAllliance event, they knew right away they could work together.

UPEI Men’s Soccer recruits Nathan Chow

Nathan Chow has committed to wear the green and white this season as a member of the UPEI Men’s Soccer team. Chow is a 17-year-old striker, winger, and attacking midfielder from Campbell River, British Columbia.

“Nathan is a creative attacking player who will create chances for others and score goals himself. We are excited to have him join the Panther family,” said Lewis Page, head coach of UPEI Men’s Soccer.

Archbishop of Cape Town discusses moral leadership with students in MBA in Global Leadership

Thabo Makgoba, the Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, South Africa, recently presented to students in UPEI’s new MBA in Global Leadership program. The archbishop participated in a question-and-answer style presentation with Dr. Jurgen Krause, dean of UPEI’s Faculty of Business. The two discussed moral leadership, morality in business, and the importance of finding common ground when negotiating with people of other cultures and beliefs. 

Two AVC classes to hold summer reunions

Summer is a great time to catch up with classmates and friends, and two AVC classes are celebrating anniversaries next month.

The Class of 1994 will hold its 25th anniversary reunion from August 2–3 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Plans include an informal get-together on the Friday evening in Halifax. Celebrating 50 years of Accomplishment—A Tribute to Alex B. Campbell, LLD

The University of Prince Edward Island paid tribute today to Alex B. Campbell, former premier of Prince Edward Island, for his central role in the creation of UPEI 50 years ago. The university unveiled the new Alex B. Campbell Terrace in the UPEI Quadrangle near the W.A. Murphy Student Centre and the creation of an endowment fund in Campbell’s name for entrance scholarships.

Meet and Greet with UPEI first President, Dr. Ronald J. Baker

Dr. Ronald J. Baker, President Emeritus, took up his duties as the University of Prince Edward Island’s first president in the summer of 1969. Upon retiring as president in 1978, Dr. Baker continued duties as a professor at UPEI until 1991. Dr. Baker will host a meet and greet reception to mark the occasion of UPEI’s fiftieth anniversary, and looks forward to welcoming former colleagues and students!

A Tribute to Alex B. Campbell, LLD & Strawberry Social

Join members of the community as two legacy projects are announced in honour of former premier, Dr. Alex Campbell, whose bold vision for postsecondary education on Prince Edward Island was central in the formation of UPEI fifty years ago.

The announcement will take place in the UPEI Quadrangle, between the W. A. Murphy Student Centre and Kelley Memorial Building.
