You'll visit our large- and small-animal hospitals, take a couple field trips, hear about the educational requirements to become a veterinarian, and learn how to keep your pets and farm animals healthy. The Atlantic Veterinary College is pleased to offer our popular Summer Academy for high school graduates, undergraduate students, and university graduates interested in pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine. The College's Summer Academy provides students an exceptional opportunity to explore the profession in a hands-on, authentic way. Students at the AVC Summer Academy will interact with the College's faculty, staff and students through a variety of instructional approaches including classroom lectures, labs, and hands-on sessions, all of which serve to expose students to the profession of veterinary medicine. The students' experience is further enhanced through an educational off-campus field trip. Applications have closed for the 2018 AVC Summer Academy. Come out to the discussion on the challenges that women face in academia. This event is for all students and faculty members at UPEI. This town hall is inspired by the hashtag #Immodestwomen (check it out on Twitter) started by Dr. Fern Riddell as a response to the negative backlash she experienced on social media about using ”Dr” in her Twitter handle, and a recent piece in University Affairs, revealing that women are still outnumbered in the higher ranks. At this town hall, notes will be taken and a brief written by the GSA to provide to UPEI leaders. Friday, June 22, 12-1 pm Faculty Lounge, Main Building. Bring your own lunch; cookies, tea, and coffee will be provided. Hosted by the UPEI Graduate Students’ Association.

In recognition of the relationship between Japan and PEI, participants of the The L.M. Montgomery Institute's 13th Biennial Conference will be planting a cherry tree. The flowering tree will be very much like the tree which greets Anne when she first arrives on PEI at the train station at Bright River and outside her window at Green Gables. The planting will be Saturday, June 23 at 8:40 am in the UPEI Quadrangle between the Kelley Memorial Building and the W.A. Murphy Student Centre. All are welcome! The plaque set near the tree will read, "In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the L.M. Montgomery Institute & the kindred spirits of Japan and PEI.  June 23, 2018." There will be representatives from the LMMI and Japan on hand.   

This study reviews existing research conducted between 2007 and 2017, regarding integrating technology in K-12 classrooms and preparing K-12 teachers for using technology in their classrooms. The present study examines studies concerning the integration of technology in K-12 classrooms and investigates professional development models for encouraging pre-service and in-service teachers to use technology. This study synthesizes quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods studies in order to have a comprehensive view of existing research. Based on a review of 45 articles concerning integrating technology in K-12 classrooms, and 50 articles focusing on K-12 teachers' professional development regarding technology, this review found that there were relatively few empirical studies conducted in actual K-12 classrooms and relatively few studies of embedded professional development. This study seeks to contribute to current research focused on integrating technology in K-12 classrooms and on K-12 teachers' professional development about teaching with technology. It recommends more empirical research in K-12 classrooms and more research on K-12 teachers' embedded professional learning about technology.
