This event has been rescheduled to Friday, February 15.  Come join us at an OPEN HOUSE for the UPEI Health and Wellness Centre as we welcome our newest member Lynne Fraser, Nurse Practitioner. The UPEI Health and Wellness Centre has expanded its hours of operation and will be open five days per week on a year-round basis. The Centre is also providing care to faculty, staff, and immediate family (spouse, partner, and children). Join us from 1:00 - 2:30 pm on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the UPEI Health and Wellness Centre on the second floor (north) of the W.A. Murphy Student Centre (above the bookstore). Tea/coffee and finger foods will be served!

Island Lecture Series February Lecture

The Island Lecture Series February lecture is Tuesday, February 19, at 7 p.m. in the SDU Main Building Faculty Lounge on the UPEI campus, and will feature Island Studies master’s student Emerald Naylor speaking about her research in Hawai’i. “More than sun and pineapples: A look into the culture of astronomical sciences in Hawai'i" is a research project that focuses on the importance and popularity of astronomy on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Join Emerald as she reflects back on her recent trip to the Big Island, sharing her observations of astronomy culture and the importance of showcasing both Western and Hawaiian perspectives. This project focuses on the impact of the 13 telescopes on Maunakea and how relationships between Hawaiians and Western astronomers are navigated. She will also discuss what the current tensions may mean for the future of astronomy on Maunakea. Emerald Naylor is currently a second-year student in the Master of Arts in Island Studies program at the University of Prince Edward Island. She graduated from the University of Waterloo on the Dean's Honours List, with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and History. An avid participant in the arts from a very young age, she is now a writer and freelance choreographer and dancer. Emerald was previously a member of the Waterloo Region Record's Youth Editorial Board, St. Jerome's Student Activities Committee, and the Canadian Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies. She is currently a member of the International Small Island Studies Association, and the Vice-President of UPEI's Graduate Student Association. Emerald is the recipient of many awards including the Joseph Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship, the Kitchener's Youth Council Award in Arts and Culture, and second place for Children's Literature in the Waterloo Region. Admission to the lecture is free and everyone is welcome to attend. The next lecture is scheduled for March 19, 2019. Neuroscience Journal Club

The monthly meeting of the UPEI & Friends Neuroscience Journal Club will be held on Friday January 18, 2019 from 3-4 pm in the "fishbowl" of the Duffy Research Centre (NRC). All neuroscience research students as well as faculty, scientists and staff with an interest in neuroscience topics are welcome to attend. MHW 2019: Keynote Address with Jeremie Saunders

MHW Kick-Off! “Open Up Wide. No, Wider. Cultivating Happiness Through Vulnerability” presented by Jeremie Saunders of the SickBoy Podcast.  For a lot of us, the purpose of life is striving for happiness. But often times this is not possible without the support of others. In his keynote, Jeremie breaks down the importance of building community when striving for happiness and the vital role vulnerability plays in building the trust needed to strengthen the foundation of support we need as we strive to realize live our lives to the fullest. Drawing on his experience living with cystic fibrosis for over 31 years, Jeremie Saunders, copresenter of the Sickboy podcast, brings real people with life-altering illnesses to a growing audience. In an unparalleled combination of what he calls “bro-science,” humour, and compassion, Saunders inspires us to move beyond euphemism and platitude to speak directly of the things that matter most. MHW 2019: How to Write a Self-Reflective Narrative

Dear Inspiring Self: How to Write a Self-Reflective Narrative  Learn about the importance of taking time for self-reflection, and the stages of writing a “reflective narrative” to help feel more grounded, focused, and connected to yourself and others. Participants will write an inspiring letter to themselves within this lighthearted and relaxed session: letters will be mailed out during the busy end-of-term and exam season for a message of positive reinforcement, and reminder to be mindful and kind to oneself during times of stress. MHW 2019: Yoga Stretch/Guided Meditation with Pam Harris

This class is a 45-minute class that offers gentle yoga stretches and muscle strengthening and toning through slow controlled movements. The meditation segment of the class creates more calm, inner peace and balance that benefits both your emotional wellbeing and overall health. This interactive session discusses effective ways of communicating and supporting a friend who is in need.
