Difficult Dialogues: Personal Experiences of Transgendered People

This is a continuation of the Difficult Dialogues series that was started last year at UPEI. The topic for this event is transgendered persons and their life experiences. During this event people will have the opportunity to learn about what transgendered people have to go through on a daily basis. The schedule for the event can be found below. This event is an interactive event in the sense that those in attendance will have several opportunities to ask question that they may have about the material presented, as well as ask about the experiences some of the presenters have had. People do not have to speak or interact if they are not comfortable with the idea. Stand up for Rugby!

Join comedians François Weber (Winnipeg Comedy Fest, CBC The Debaters), and Matt Stewart (Yuk Yuks on Tour, Charlottetown Festival) in the Georgian Room at the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel on Thursday, October 17 at 8:00 pm for a night of laughs, all to support the UPEI Women’s Rugby Team. Francois Weber: Award-winning stand-up comedian, Weber, has appeared at the CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival, the Halifax Comedy Fest, the Hubcap Comedy Festival, the LOL Comedy Festival in Sudbury, Ont., and most recently on CBC's “The Debaters.” His energetic storytelling style strikes a chord with young and old, clubs and conventions. Matt Stewart: A veteran of the Maritime standup comedy game, over the past few years, Stewart has been steadily climbing the comedy ladder. In 2011 was named Prince Edward Island’s “best standup act." He has performed with Yuk Yuks, at Joker’s Comedy Clubs, as a part of the Charlottetown Festival, and for the Canadian Forces. Stewart was a featured comedian at the Off Centre Comedy Festival for two years and has appeared with some of the best comedians in the country. Tickets are $20 and are available at Panther Central at the Chi Wan Young Sports Centre. Please note this is a 19+ event.

Biology Seminar: Marine Conservation Issues in the Canadian Context

The Department of Biology and the UPEI Biology Society will host a presentation entitled "Marine Conservation Issues in the Canadian Context" by Dr. Sean Brillant, marine biologist and manager of Marine Programs for The Canadian Wildlife Federation, on October 17 from 7:00–9:00 pm in the Duffy Science Centre's Ampitheatre D 135. The lecture will provide a broad overview of conservation issues in all three oceans which comprise the Canadian coastline. Specific topics will include: species at risk, commercial fisheries, ocean pollution and climate change (with a special emphasis on the Atlantic coastal zone). The presentation will be augmented by a rich visual slide display of Canada’s spectacular marine vistas.
