Environmental Sciences and Human Biology Research Seminar

The Environmental Sciences and Human Biology research seminars kicks off the year with its first seminar on Friday, September 12 at 12:30pm in Duffy Science Centre, room 204. The first speaker will be Dr. Yefang Jiang from Agriculture and Agri-food Canada (AAFC). Dr. Jiang's talk is entitled: Advancing knowledge for improving water quality and economic resiliency of crop production in Atlantic Canada. ​All Environmental Sciences and Human Biology Research Seminar will occur on Fridays at 12:30 pm for the 2014 Fall semester. ESC-HUB Research Seminar: Dr. Cynthia Blanton

Dr. Cynthia Blanton (Idaho State University) will give a talk entitled "Iron Status and Cognitive Function in College Women" on Friday, September 26th. Dr. Blanton is a Fulbright Scholar in Nutrisciences & Health and is on campus this fall working with Dr. Marva Sweeney-Nixon and Dr. Kathy Gottschall-Pass on a project entitled "Enhancing Blueberry’s Health Effects with Probiotics" Coffee and light snacks will be provided.

Boston Launch of Alumni and Friends Chapter

The UPEI Alumni Association is excited to launch its fifth Alumni and Friends Chapter this year, on September 17 in Boston, Massachusetts. Recognition of Founders Ceremony

Chemistry Seminar: Enzymes, Carbohydrates and Natural Products

Dr. David Jakeman, College of Pharmacy, Department of Chemistry, Dalhousie University will present a seminar on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 12:30 pm. Dr. Jakeman's presentation is entitled "Enzymes, Carbohydrates and Natural Products". The seminar will be held in the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre, Lecture Theatre Room 212. Braid and Brass with Jazz pianist David Braid & Maritime Brass Quintet

The UPEI Department of Music is pleased to begin their 2014-2015 Concert Series at Steel Recital Hall on Friday, September 12 at 7:30 pm with David Braid and the Maritime Brass Quintet performing Braid’s works for jazz piano and brass quintet and Gershwin's “Rhapsody in Blue”. Throughout this season the Music Department will be celebrating its students, alumni and PEI musicians returning home, by featuring them in fifteen of the seventeen concerts presented in the series. This first concert includes UPEI alumni Eric Mathis and Bob Nicholson as part of the brass quintet. Tick Talk: The threat of Lyme disease in PEI

Nature PEI and the Atlantic Veterinary College, UPEI, will co-present a public workshop called Tick Talk: The threat of Lyme disease in PEI on Thursday, September 25, at 7:00 pm in the AVC Lecture Theatre A. A serious illness that spreads to humans and pets from the bite of infected ticks, Lyme disease is on the rise in Canada. Dr. Vett Lloyd, Department of Biology, Mount Allison University, and Dr. Barb Horney, Department of Pathology and Microbiology, AVC, will talk about the symptoms of Lyme disease, how it is transmitted, treatments available, and prevention for you and your pets. AVC Open House

The Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island will hold its 26th annual Open House on Saturday, September 27, from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. Organized and run by AVC students, AVC Open House is an opportunity for the public to go behind the scenes at a veterinary medical college. Visitors will see many demonstrations and exhibits, including a parade of dog breeds; clicker training with dogs; a painted cow and horse; and much more. Children can bring their favourite stuffed toys for a check-up and treatment at the always-popular Teddy Bear Clinic. Children can also have their faces painted, get balloon animals, and learn how to gown up for surgery. Visitors are welcome to bring canned cat or dog food, or toys for the PEI Humane Society. AVC Open House is one of the largest, most successful open houses in Atlantic Canada. Everyone is welcome to attend!
