Career Showcase and Job Fair

Do you have a career in mind but not sure if it’s right for you? Need a job? Come to UPEI’s Career Showcase and Job Fair on Wednesday, March 10th from 10-2 in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The Career Showcase is your chance to talk with someone who is in a career you would like to pursue or would like to find out more about. While the Job Fair is a great opportunity to meet with different employers are wanting to hire UPEI students and graduates. And don’t forget to fill out a ballet for your chance to win a Notebook, ITouch, printer and other great prizes!

UPEI Stories Showcase

Come help us celebrate the "best of the best" of students' project work in the University 100 Program. The Showcase will be opened by one of UPEI's favourite story tellers Dr. Ed MacDonald. Dr. MacDonald will highlight the history and heritage of post-secondary education on Prince Edward Island. Individual students will then present their work. The Showcase will conclude with refreshments and presentation of student recognition awards.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Management Course

The next session of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Management course begins April 1, 2010. The dates for this Spring session are April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 and May 6, 13 and 27. The full-day retreat day will be Saturday May 8th. The location for the course will be Mount St. Mary's, Thursday evenings from 4:30 - 7:00 pm. Cost for the session is $410 + GST and includes all course material. Please note that registration is limited and seats fill up quickly. On The Line: An Evening of Monologues

The students from this year's Theatre Studies 244 class will be presenting monologues from a variety of Canadian plays. Come out, on March 27, and support the future performers in the Theatre Studies Program. The event begins at 7:30 pm in the Faculty Lounge in Main. Admission is a donation of either money or non-perishable food. All proceeds will be going to the Campus food bank. Warning: some monologues contain adult language and deal with adult themes. UPEI Executive-style MBA program Student Presentations on PEI Biotech Area Analysis

The students in the UPEI Executive-style MBA Program's Biotechnology stream invite the public to their presentations on "Biotech Areas in PEI ", as part of their Commercialization of Biotechnology and Innovations course. The presentations will include an evaluation of the topic and potential future approaches for the areas of Animal Health, Aquaculture and Biofuels. These presentations will be held on Wednesday, March 31st from 6:00 pm -9:00 pm in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium, McDougall Hall. Food Security Initiatives in a Land of Plenty

By Distinguished Professor and IIS Research Associate Dr Mark Lapping from the University of Southern Maine Date: Thursday March 18, 2010 Time: noon – 1PM Location: Main Building Faculty Lounge, UPEI Professor Lapping of the University will give a public talk about food security as it relates to rural areas, land use policy and community planning. He has been working on food security issues for close to 20 years and is currently working on a project in Cumberland County, Maine, to identify vulnerable populations, assess their levels of food insecurity and develop a plan to tie them together with food banks, farmers, farmers’ markets and other agencies to address food insecurity problems. He is also part of a group that is working to establish a system of community foundations to handle what will be over the next 20 years one of the largest transfers of land wealth in American history.

Challenges and Opportunities: the next 25 years

Challenges and Opportunities: the next 25 years ‑ a public event to engage Islanders in the process of planning for the Island’s future. Location: Carrefour de l’Isle-Saint‑Jean (5 Acadian Drive, Charlottetown) A panel of local and regional speakers will identify current strengths and future opportunities for building a more vibrant, progressive and sustainable Island society. Discussions will focus on the economy, the environment, health, education, arts and culture. Taking into consideration some of the unique challenges we face on P.E.I., including fiscal constraints, an ageing population, and climate change. Forum participants will have an opportunity to work in small groups, discuss these themes and report back with key ideas that will help to move the Island forward.
