Bringing in the Bystander Training Session
Bringing in the Bystander teaches bystanders how to intervene safely and effectively. Its main message is that “everyone in the community has a role to play in ending sexual violence.” This program increases participants’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours about effective responses to sexual violence.
The training program will be offered to UPEI students in two sessions on Tuesday, October 28 from 10:00 am to 12:00pm OR 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in Bill and Denise Andrew Hall, room 142. Lunch will be provided to all participants at 12:00 pm.
Trainer, Annie Chau, Project Coordinator, Preventing Violence at St. FX and Bridget Housten, a St. FX student, will share statistics and stories on why bystander intervention works. Please join us in addressing violence against women and other forms of gender-based violence in our community.
To register email Krystal at kmayne@upei.ca. Registration is limited to 30 per session.
Johnnyville: An Official Secrets Act, by Drew Carnwath
The show will be performed in the Faculty Lounge in SDU Main Building, November 13, 14, and 15. The doors will open at 7:00 pm for a 7:30 start. Admission is pay-what-you can. For more information, contact Dr. Greg Doran at gdoran@upei.ca or (902) 566-6013.
The play is a twisted story of love, deceit, betrayal, denial, and identity; Johnnyville aims to capture the complexity of human emotions. A struggle between the real self and the self we present to others thrusts the characters into multiple versions of reality with the same outcome. Who can you trust and how do you know if you ever truly see someone for who he or she is?
