Brad Scott, Department of Biomedical Sciences, will give a seminar
entitled "Characterization of a novel androgen receptor in the
threespine stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus)" on Tuesday, April 16 at
1:30 pm in AVC, Lecture Theatre "C".
Everyone is welcome.
If you have difficulty carving out uninterrupted time for writing, if you
struggle with motivating yourself to write, or if you would simply like the
supportive collaboration of a writing retreat, consider Time to Write,
UPEI's faculty writers' retreat.
When: Monday, May 20 to Friday, May 24.

Cost to participants: $200, which includes four nights' accommodation, meals
and snacks
Your project must be at a stage where sustained writing time makes sense.
Your research and/or data-collection and analysis must be completed to the
point that you are ready to write. You must also be prepared to commit to
the full program: a total of 3½ days focused on writing.
The retreat is open to tenured and tenure stream University of Prince
Edward Island faculty in any department/faculty/school.

It's time for some noon-time fresh air, and to try to launch a new UPEI
club with an easy, friendly, group ride Tuesday, April 16 and Thursday, April
18.
Meet at the campus clock at 12:30 for an inaugural group ride.
No-drop policy (five-minute rule applies), we will head outbound on the
Confederation Trail and decide where to go from there, maybe road/maybe trail--
depends upon skill and fitness levels of who shows up. Plan for an hour or so of
fresh air and fun.
Required equipment: a bike, a helmet, and a smile.

There will be a special seminar in the Biology Department next
Thursday, April 18, at 2:00 pm in Duffy 204.
Dr. Andrew Medeiros will be speaking on "The use of aquatic
invertebrates as indicators of environmental change in the Arctic."
Dr. Medeiros is a W. Garfield Weston Postdoctoral Fellow at WLU. His
research encompasses both the water chemistry and biology of Arctic
lakes.

Convocation exercises will be held in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre on Saturday, May 11, 2013. The first ceremony will begin at 10:00 am when approximately 450 students will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Education in Human Resource Development, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Business in Tourism and Hospitality, Bachelor of Business Studies, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Master of Science (Veterinary Medicine), Master of Veterinary Science, Master of Education, Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Philosophy. Certificates will also be awarded in Accounting, Business, Adult Education, Inclusive Education and School Librarianship.
The second ceremony will begin at 2:30 pm and it is expected that more than 450 students will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Applied Arts in Print Journalism, Bachelor of Music & Music Education, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Child & Family Studies, Bachelor of Wildlife Conservation, Bachelor of Integrated Studies, Bachelor of Applied Science in Radiography, Diplomas in Engineering and Public Administration, Master of Arts, Master of Science (Science) and Certificates in Public Administration.
The academic procession will leave Duffy building for the first ceremony at 9:40 am, and the procession for the second ceremony will leave Duffy at 2:10 pm.
As in past years we will need to know the numbers for seating purposes. It is imperative to note that no issue of regalia will be made on convocation day. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Academic regalia may be picked up and paid for in the Registrar’s Office at the following times:
• Thursday, May 9 between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm
• Friday, May 10 between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm
