Current UPEI Employees can apply for free access to the indoor track, Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. Time period of access is from January 2, 2020 - April 30, 2020. To apply for access please log into myUPEI and look under forms for the Indoor Track Access application form. This initiative is supported by the Healthy Campus Committee, as part of the UPEI Employee Wellness Strategy.

The Department of Student Affairs still has a limited number of seats available for the Mental Health First Aid Training it is offering December 18 and 19, 2019. This 12-hour course is accredited by the Mental Health Commission of Canada and offers participants a chance to learn more about mental health, challenge attitudes about mental illness, and learn skills for helping those in distress. Applicants need to be enrolled or have completed all required prerequisite Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics courses in order to be eligible to be considered. UPEI Employees (current) can apply for a $75 Fitness Training Subsidy to go towards either a Panther Fitness cycle class, specialty class or small group training. To apply please visit myUPEI and complete the application form, listed under forms. Employees who received a subsidy in the Fall 2019 can apply again. We have 60 subsidies. If you are shipping a perishable item on December 23, please ensure that the company you are shipping to is open on Christmas Eve for delivery. The Atlantic Canada Study and Stay - Prince Edward Island program (www.studypei.ca), is recruiting mentors to meet with students for a minimum of 6 hours over the next 7 months. This program is designed for international students in their final year at publicly funded PEI post-secondary institutions who want to stay in Prince Edward Island after graduation to build their lives and find meaningful employment in PEI.
The program runs from October - August and during this time students attend a retreat, a conference and online workshops; all focused on assisting the students with becoming familiar with the PEI workforce and best practices in finding employment. The Mentor aspect of the program is matching a Mentor with a Student and asking them to meet periodically between January and July. Meetings are generally informal, over a cup of coffee, or can be held online via Skype, etc.
These mentor opportunities will really help our students with networking, soft skills and overall confidence to enter the workforce. The Mentors often end up learning something new too! Mentors can sign up at:

The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions (new, renewal, or amendment) is Friday, January 3 for the January meeting.
Ensure you download the current forms from http://upei.ca/research-services/research-certifications/animal-care, use the most current Adobe Reader to complete forms (only current forms will be accepted). To view any UPEI ACC SOPs and Codes of Practice, they can be accessed through myUPEI at https://portal.upei.ca/facultystaff/administrativeservices/AVCAnimalCare/Pages/default.aspx.
Both the signed hard copy and electronic protocol submission must be submitted by the deadline date.
- Submit one copy of original protocol with signature to AVC - North Annex, Biomedical Sciences Dept., Rm 2302
- Submit an electronic copy to animalcare@upei.ca
Those protocols received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month. The Committee requires at least one month for processing applications.

This Fascial Release & Yoga class will be an experience in exploring your connective tissue mindfully while strengthening and stretching to help reduce stress and encourage overall health & vitality.
Brenda Dowel, a registered Yoga Teacher E-RYT-1000 and Licensed Holistic Practitioner. She provides Myofascial Release Therapy, Lomilomi, Fascial Stretch Therapy, Life Stretch & Thai Yoga Massage with her business. After many years of teaching, Brenda is continually uplifted, and wishes to continue to inspire and empower others to come home to their hearts through their bodies and live their true passion.
Brenda will lead this class on Tuesday, December 17, 4:30 pm - 5:45 pm, Sports Centre fitness studio #1. Pre-registration is required, no cost. How much time do you spend reflecting on your teaching? Would you like to do more? Why not start 2020 off with a commitment to become more reflective? In this workshop, participants will be provided with exercises to practice reflection daily over a 30 day period. This is both a collaborative and social learning experience. Each day, participants will share their own reflections and comment on the reflections of others. Facilitated by the E-Learning Office, the workshop consists of two face-to-face sessions (Opening session - January 10th and closing session - February 10th, 2:00-3:00 PM, Rm 103 Health Sciences Building) with the remainder of the workshop occurring online between those two sessions. Ethics protocols that involve ‘more than minimal risk’ must be reviewed by the full UPEI Research Ethics Board (REB). The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Friday January 3, 2020. They will be reviewed at the January meeting. Protocols involving ‘more than minimal risk’ that are received after January 3, 2020 will be reviewed at the February 2020 meeting.
Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve ‘more than minimal risk’, renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.
