The UPEI Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Karem J. Simon, will be performing a full recital of contemporary wind band music on Friday, November 24 at Park Royal United Church in Charlottetown.
With performances in recent years at local Churches–St. Dunstan’s Basilica and Zion Presbyterian–the Wind Symphony is continuing a tradition of performing beyond campus.

In June 2017, Dalhousie University hosted the Simulations & Student Learning Symposium. This event brought three internationally renowned experts to Halifax for an intensive workshop on expanding and enriching simulation-based learning.

This is a reminder that the UPEI Biosafety Policy requires that all Principal Investigators confirm the security and complete inventory of all biohazardous materials being used or stored, due in November of each year. This is accomplished by updating your entries, then confirming this action, as follows:
1. Access your inventory by clicking here.
2. Ensure your inventory is up to date, and then confirm this by following the steps as listed below.
3. Select User Menu (Top right of screen) then My account from the left side of the drop down screen.
4. Click Edit (just below the user name)
5. Click on Information, on the top right section of the screen.
6. Scroll down this page. Below the box with the phone number, you will notice a box next to I accept. If you have not already done so, please read this section and, if you agree, please check this box.
7. To report your inventory is up to date, please enter the date that you confirm this in the 2017 box.
8. Hit Save! Task completed.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you are not yet a user of this site, but store or use biohazardous materials, please contact me to arrange access.

Learning is an action that only the student can own and control. As an instructor, what can be done to help a student maximize his/her learning capabilities? In this workshop, instructors will learn about three key skills that contribute to more efficient and effective learning. Those skills are how to take notes, how to read for learning, and how to study effectively.
Offered by the E-Learning Office, this workshop is available on two separate dates. Wednesday, November 22 or Tuesday, November 28 from 1:00-2:00 pm in Rm 265, Robertson Library. Register!

The Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre and the AVC Animal Welfare Club are starting a journal club. The group will meet once a month starting January 19, 2018 to discuss articles in the areas of:
- animal welfare science
- animal ethics
- animal behaviour
- anesthesia and analgesia

Here is the plan:

Meet at lunch hour (12:30-1:20) the third Friday of the month, starting January 19(Room TBD).

Anyone can sign up for the e-mail list. You will then receive an e-mail notice of the upcoming article for discussion about a week before the journal club meets, in which we will tell you who will be presenting the article, the citation of the article, a link to download it, and the abstract (so people can decide if they would like to attend and/or download the full article via UPEI paid access). This is better than attaching the pdf to the e-mail, for copyright reasons.)

One article will be presented per session (rotating presenters). The person who has chosen the article will submit it to Alice Crook a week ahead of time so attendees will have the opportunity to read the article before the meeting, but presenters should be aware that not everyone will have had time to read it and should address this in their presentation of the article i.e. begin with a background to the study before the critique.
- The first 20 minutes or so will be the person who has chosen it taking us through the background to it (and why they chose it – why they think we should know about it) and the study itself (with critique). The next 15/20 minutes will be a group discussion around the subject invoked by the article. e.g. what can we learn from it? What can we do better? Critical appraisal is encouraged.
