Availability has just opened for the upcoming ASIST Workshop, taking place tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday, March 8 & 9. This training is available free of charge for UPEI's staff, students and faculty.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.

A new capability in Moodle makes it possible to create scannable paper tests using your Moodle question bank. If you've been using multiple choice tests in your face-to-face class, this can help you save some grading time.

The E-Learning Office will demo the process of how these sheets work and how they're graded. If you're interested in attending, please register here.

The monthly meeting of the UPEI & Friends Neuroscience Journal Club will be held on Friday March 9, 2018 from 3:00-4:00 pm in the "fishbowl" of the Duffy Research Centre (NRC). Join us March 7 at 6:30 pm for a screening of the award winning film, "The Light of the Moon" directed by Jessica M. Thompson and starring Stephanie Beatriz. The trailer can be viewed here.

The film stars Stephanie Beatriz as Bonnie, a woman who was sexually assaulted in New York City and covers a six week period following the assault and deals with the resulting impact on her and the changes in her relationships.

Entrance is by donation. Proceeds will go to the Anderson House and the Chief Mary Bernard Memorial Shelter.

After the film, there will be a moderated panel with various campus and community organization leaders to answer your questions and to lead a discussion on the topic of sexual assault. Confirmed panelists: Michelle Jay (PEI Status of Women), Cybelle Rieger (PEERS Alliance), Treena Smith (UPEI Student Affairs), Daneen MacDonald (Family Violence Prevention Services), and Sigrid Rolfe (PEI Rape and Sexual Assault Centre).

Are you familiar with Open Educational Resources but want to learn more? Are you curious about the ways that you can self publish? The Robertson Library offers tools and software for students and faculty to help them write and publish their own research.

Join Meghan Landry and Kim Mears from the Robertson Library as they discuss self-publishing in the context of Open Educational Resources Week from March 5-9, 2018.

They will introduce faculty and students to Pressbooks, a software that allows users to upload or write their own material and publish it in a variety of accessible formats, such as a webbook, PDF (for print), PDF (for digital distribution), ePUB, MOBI, XML, and more. If online books are not your thing, the Library also has the capability of printing book material.

Are you a coffee addict, then why don’t you java jive down with Vagabond Productions on our newest show Fresh Brewed Tales from the Coffee Bar by Henry Meyerson. The show is a series of eleven short plays that showcase various situations that are only similar in one way: they all take place in a coffee shop. These scenes range from absurd to more realistic; the one thing all these scenes have in common aside from setting is they are all hilarious.

Since it is important to vary up scenery from time to time, Vagabond is stepping out of the Faculty Lounge and into the world of coffee. Receiver seemed like the perfect place to stage this show. With this play taking place in a coffee shop, the production will truly bring audiences into the world of the play. Each scene in Fresh Brewed is wildly different from the next, which means the only thing you can be sure about in this show is there will be laughs aplenty.

The play runs March 5 to 10 at Receiver Coffee, located at 128 Richmond Street. The doors open at 7 pm for a 7:30 pm start. Admission is pay what you can. Seating is limited, with no presale tickets, so come early and enjoy a coffee before the show to guarantee yourself a seat.
