UPEI Indigenous Teachings course delivered to students at the UPEI Cairo campus
The UPEI Cairo Campus has introduced a new course, Indigenous Teachings, that aims to expand students' knowledge about a crucial part of Canadian history relating to Indigenous and non-Indigenous relations to present day. David Varis, UPEI assistant professor in the Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research and Applied Studies (IKERAS) was the first to teach the course to students at the UPEI Cairo Campus. He recently returned from the campus in Egypt where he taught the in-person portion of the course to 25 students.

What brought you to UPEI? Why did you choose to study here?
I chose to come to UPEI because it was local, and I wanted to study somewhere where I could put my knowledge to use in a community that I know. I'm from Goose River, PEI—a very small rural community on the northeast shore of the Island.

Panthers’ top-ranked defence adds lockdown defender Deborah Aboagye
The UPEI Women’s Basketball Panthers have secured a commitment for the 2023–24 season from Deborah Aboagye, the reigning Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) Most Outstanding Defensive Player.
Aboagye joins the UPEI Panthers after four years with the Bishop’s Gaiters, where she played a significant role as the team’s defensive anchor. The 23-year-old from Montréal, Québec is known for her suffocating on-ball defence and is often tasked with guarding the opponent’s best backcourt players.
UPEI campus community participates in successful 2023 PEI Pride Parade
Led by members of the UPEI Student Union and the Panther Patrol van, students, administration, faculty, staff, and alumni gathered together to participate in the 29th annual PEI Pride Parade on Saturday, July 29.
UPEI’s mascot, Pride, also joined the group to walk the route and greet those lining the streets to watch the parade.
This year’s event has been touted by organizers as “the best one yet” with a record 75 groups registering for the parade, including the first marching band.

What brought you to UPEI? Why did you choose to study here?
I am originally from Lagos, Nigeria, and now I'm a Canadian citizen living with my family in Stratford, PEI. I wanted to be at home with my family while studying at UPEI.
What do you find unique and interesting about the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program?
The fact that I can help save lives, put a smile on people's faces, and make a positive difference in their lives is so amazing. This is so different from my previous career!
