UPEI researchers receive funding from provincial climate challenge fund
Congratulations to five UPEI researchers who have received funding from the Government of PEI’s climate challenge fund.
Their projects were among 18 announced by the Honourable Stephen Myers, Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, at the UPEI Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation on July 18. The fund provides $1 million annually to help organizations develop innovative solutions to climate change.
The UPEI researchers are as follows:
Dr. Meagan Walker’s success at UPEI’s Three Minute Thesis competition
A second-place finish at the Three Minute Thesis competition is just the beginning for Dr. Meagan Walker, MSc, Department of Companion Animals, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The Three Minute Thesis competition is a skills development activity held every year at UPEI which challenges thesis-based graduate students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.
Book Discussion: Don McDougall – Business: Get it done, have some fun
Author Gary MacDougall will interview Don McDougall the subject of his 2022 Biography "Don McDougall—Business: Get it done, have some fun" about his positive memories of being a student at SDU, his interesting times leading various private sector businesses, his role in bringing in the Toronto Blue Jays to Canada, his current business interests in PEI and other interesting anecdotes. Don was most recently inducted on June 30th to the Order of Canada.
Atlantic Veterinary College Blue Coat Ceremony
The Atlantic Veterinary College's Blue Coat Ceremony is a special event to officially welcome our incoming class to AVC and celebrate the beginning of their veterinary education. The ceremony includes speeches and the presentation of blue coats to our incoming students by the people they have selected for this special tradition.

University extends condolences on the passing of hockey great Billy MacMillan
The University community was saddened to learn of the death of Saint Dunstan’s University alumnus and former UPEI Men’s Hockey coach William "Billy" MacMillan, who achieved a level of sport success that few other Islanders have.
Charlottetown standouts Landon Perry and Noah Killorn join UPEI Men’s Soccer
The UPEI Men’s Soccer Panthers have secured commitments from Island soccer players and former adversaries Landon Perry and Noah Killorn for the 2023–24 season.
At the high school level, Perry and Killorn had some intense battles. Together, they have combined to take home the past three Prince Edward Island School Athletic Association (PEISAA) soccer championships. Perry, a recent Charlottetown Rural graduate, took the first title, while Killorn won the past two as a player for Colonel Gray.

UPEI welcomes Austin Clement as new director of Conference and Ancillary Services
The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is pleased to welcome Austin Clement as the new director of Conference and Ancillary Services. Clement will oversee a variety of operations that support and supplement UPEI’s core academic functions, including Conference Services, Residence Services, and the University’s Bookstore.
