AVC vet campers ready to learn about veterinary medicine!

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at UPEI is geared up to host the wildly popular Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp, introducing junior and senior high school students to the exciting world of veterinary medicine. The program, which includes four one-week camps, begins July 10. 

For the first time, there are two camp coordinators leading the pack of campers—third-year AVC student Lindsay Gallant and second-year student Julia Skinner.  

UPEI students study abroad in Italy through Maymester program

Dr. James Moran, UPEI history professor, and Dr. Christian Lacroix, UPEI biology professor, partnered with the University’s Office of Study Abroad and International Partnerships to take 19 students to Italy from May 19–29, 2023, through the Maymester program. This short-term excursion was a faculty-led multidisciplinary experience that provided students with the opportunity to study the history of western medicine.

UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers add depth between the pipes in rookie netminder Joe Ranger

The UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers have secured a commitment from rookie netminder Joe Ranger for the 2023–24 season. This year’s roster will feature three goaltenders, including Ranger, who joins the Panthers after a strong Ontario Hockey League (OHL) career.

“Joe has a ton of major junior experience. We had good conversations early, and based on his junior career, we decided to pursue him aggressively,” said head coach Forbes MacPherson. “He’s a great teammate, so we’re really excited to add him.”

UPEI community saddened by death of Dr. Richard Kurial

The University of Prince Edward Island community is saddened by the recent death of Dr. Richard Kurial, associate professor of history. 

A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Dr. Kurial came to the University of Prince Edward Island in 1993 to teach in the Department of History. He taught American History, American Foreign Policy, Canadian American Relations, and Race & Ethnicity in America. He retired from his position at UPEI on July 1 of this year.

UPEI Women’s Soccer bolster defence with homegrown talent Olivia James

The UPEI Women’s Soccer Panthers have secured a commitment from rookie defender Olivia James for the 2023–24 season.

Ever since Lewis Page took over the head coaching duties for UPEI Women’s Soccer, his teams have excelled on defence. And that end of the field is now stronger with the addition of Olivia James from North Bedeque, Prince Edward Island.
