UPEI Summer Reunion Weekend to be held in person from July 28 to 30
UPEI will hold its annual Summer Reunion Weekend in person from Thursday, July 28, to Saturday, July 30, after a two-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The weekend will feature events for alumni from Saint Dunstan’s University, Prince of Wales College, and UPEI.
Red oak tree planted at UPEI in memory of conservationist and biologist Daryl Guignion
A red oak tree has been planted on the UPEI campus in memory of the late Daryl Guignion, UPEI Founder, long-time faculty member, and dedicated conservationist and biologist.
The tree, planted by the PEI Wildlife Federation, was dedicated during a ceremony at UPEI on Wednesday, July 13. Funding for the tree was provided by the Canadian Wildlife Federation.
UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering receives CEAB accreditation for degree program
The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) at UPEI has been granted accreditation for a three-year term from the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) for the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Design Engineering. This term may be extended to the maximum six-year accreditation period following the submission of a status report at the end of two years.
Tree Dedication in memory of Daryl Guignion
The PEI Wildlife Federation invites members of the University community to a tree dedication in memory of UPEI Founder, long-time faculty member, and conservationist Daryl Guignion on Wednesday, July 13, at 1:00 pm, at the intersection of the walkways between Duffy Science Centre, Kelley Memorial Building, and Don and Marion McDougall Hall. All are welcome.

In the spring, the Prince Edward Island government projected that the Island would see more than 1.2 million visitors over the 2022 tourist season. This weekend, it’s expected that approximately 25,000 visitors per day will congregate in Cavendish alone. With human tourists, we also see an increase of furry family members enjoying the campgrounds and beaches.

Local standout Ria Johnston commits to UPEI Soccer
The UPEI Women’s Soccer program has a gem on its hands.
Head coach Lewis Page has recruited local standout Ria Johnston, hoping to build a strong foundation that can help end the team’s seven-year playoff drought.
Page was drawn to Johnston’s ability to break down defences and create scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates. And after a season in which the Panthers scored fewer than a goal per game, the winger’s inclusion could be vital to the team’s success moving forward.
UPEI extends its condolences on the passing of SDU alumnus and UPEI coach Jack Kane
The UPEI Panther family and broader University community were saddened to learn of the passing of UPEI Sports Hall of Fame member John (Jack) Kane on July 3, 2022.
Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017, along with other Saint Dunstan’s University (SDU) hockey icons including his father, Jack Kane Sr. (posthumously), Billy MacMillan, and Vince Mulligan, Jack Kane Jr. was an avid and gifted athlete who loved his family, friends, and those he coached, taught, and worked with.
UPEI faculty member awarded Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award
Dr. Shannon Murray, a professor of English at the University of Prince Edward Island, has been awarded the Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE).
STLHE created the Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002 to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to teaching, learning, and educational development in Canadian higher education. Murray received the award at the STLHE annual conference held in June.
