Bailey MacIsaac and Elijah Miller named Panther Subway Athletes of the Week

Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes from March 14–20 are Bailey MacIsaac (track and field) and Elijah Miller (men’s basketball).

MacIsaac didn’t skip a beat after deciding to return for her fifth year with UPEI’s track and field program in December. At the AUS Championships last weekend, the 60-metre specialist captured a silver medal with a sprint time of 7.77 seconds.

UPEI surpasses Relay for Life fundraising goal

UPEI raised $11,254.62 for the Canadian Cancer Society, surpassing its goal of $10,000, during its annual Relay for Life, which was held virtually this year because of COVID-19. 

The student-led virtual event, which took place on March 20, included various activities, including the luminary ceremony. Cancer survivor Jessica Perry, a UPEI nursing student, gave a moving speech. The participants also played games and watched a musical performance by Hailey Ahern, one of the student executive committee members, and her grandfather.

UPEI music department announced recipients of 2022 Dr. Frances Gray Performance Competition

The UPEI Department of Music is pleased to announce the award recipients of the 2022 Dr. Frances Gray Performance Competition, which took place on March 3. Alexandra Sorensen, soprano, won first place with a $1,000 scholarship; Olive MacPhail, tuba, second place with a $750 scholarship; and Devyn Collette, saxophone, third place with a scholarship of $500. 

UPEI Virtual Relay for Life Fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society

Support the student-led virtual UPEI Relay for Life, this Sunday night, March 20 from 7–9 pm.

We’re embarking on a new journey this year that will be filled with the signature Relay For Life activities that you know and love, but in a virtual event format. The virtual event will consist of an opening ceremony that includes a guest speaker, a luminary ceremony, playing a trivia and at-home scavenger hunt game, and a closing ceremony.
