National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
On Thursday, September 30, UPEI will mark the first official National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, recently designated by the Government of Canada as a federal statutory holiday. This is a day for all Canadians to remember the tragic history and legacy of residential schools in our country and the intergenerational impacts they have had on First Nations and Indigenous Peoples.

Tireless UPEI Panther supporter Billy Mulligan passes away
The UPEI community was saddened to hear about the passing of SDU alumnus William “Billy” Mulligan, who died on June 25 at the age of 81 in Saint John, NB, after suffering heart complications.
Mulligan was an instrumental supporter of the UPEI Panthers, in particular the men’s hockey team, and had been a star athlete himself when he played for the Saint Dunstan’s University Saints. In 1962–63, Mulligan led the team to a fourth-place finish in the nine-team Maritime Intercollegiate League. He played centre on the line that led in scoring, and was selected as the league all-star.
The Back 50 Project comes to Orwell Corner Historic Village July 3
UPEI’s Back 50 Project is hitting the road! The project will visit Orwell Corner Historic Village Community Hall on July 3, at 1 pm, when Dr. Josh MacFadyen, UPEI’s Canada Research Chair in Geospatial Humanities, will give a presentation entitled “The Great Transformation: PEI Rural Land Use in the Past, Present, and Future.”

Dr. Greg Keefe reappointed as UPEI’s Dean of Veterinary Medicine
The University of Prince Edward Island Board of Governors recently accepted the recommendation of the review committee for the Dean of Veterinary Medicine to extend the decanal appointment of the current dean, Dr. Greg Keefe, for a three-year term effective July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2024.
