Panther Women’s Rugby recruits versatile rugger and kicker Charlotte Branchflower

The UPEI Women’s Rugby team has recruited Charlotte Branchflower to play for the Panthers in 2021–2022. Branchflower is a talented 17-year-old fly-half from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Assistant coach James Voye says Branchflower will be an essential piece to the Panthers’ roster as the team looks compete with the elite talent in the AUS, such as the Acadia Axewomen and the St. Francis Xavier X-Women. 

UPEI psychology student Dylan Rose receives Leadership Award at 2021 JACAC Student Forum

The Japan-Canada Academic Consortium (JACAC) recognized UPEI psychology student Dylan Rose with its Leadership Award at the 2021 JACAC Student Forum, held this past February. The JACAC forum is a student-focused event made up of senior undergraduate student representatives from member institutions in both Japan and Canada. The forum includes twelve student representatives from universities across Canada and twelve from universities in Japan.

Three student entrepreneur teams split $45,000 in the UPEI Panther Pitch

Three teams of student entrepreneurs will split $45,000 in start-up funding in the first ever UPEI Panther Pitch competition. The winning teams are Chow Time Pet Foods Inc. (made up of students Andrew Weeks and Zack Montreuil), LocalBuys (Shion Phelan), and PathCan Consulting Inc. (Nooshin Abedi Dorcheh Abedi, Ali Ravaghi, and Jesse Champion).

Let’s run! UPEI hosts the 2021 Bunny Hop race

The Bunny Hop has been a popular PEI road-running race in early spring for years. The Island community has typically thought of it as the official start to the road-racing season. This year, the UPEI Distance Running Program has taken over the management of the race, and the Panthers are hoping to restore the race to the numbers and prestige it has seen in the past. This year’s race is Saturday, April 3. Start times begin at 8 am and will be staggered through the morning to allow for social distancing.

Dr. Debbie MacLellan named the Ryley-Jeffs Memorial Award recipient by Dietitians of Canada

Dietitians of Canada (DC) has named Dr. Debbie MacLellan the recipient of the Ryley-Jeffs Memorial Award. Dr. MacLellan is a professor emeritus in UPEI’s Department of Applied Human Science. She is a former department chair, dean of science, and past president of the University of Canada in Cairo, Egypt.
