The UPEI Experiential Learning department is pleased to announce the creation of an Experiential Learning Initiative Fund. The fund will support new curricular experiential and work-integrated learning opportunities for the Winter 2022 semester.
Do you have an idea that would give your students an innovative hands-on learning experience or build a connection with local community and industry, but the cost to incorporate it has been a barrier?
Grants of up to $2,500 will be awarded for new curricular experiential and work-integrated learning opportunities and will be assessed based on innovation and impact. Priority will be given to creative pilot projects that have the potential for sustainability beyond the grant-funding.
Project proposals could look like:
-
A class visit to a business or worksite where students are able to put into practice a concept or process being taught in the class, where transportation is needed
-
An applied research or community based research project where funding could support innovative knowledge mobilization for the community partner and stakeholders
-
A community service learning project where students require a considerable amount of supervision by the partner organization and the situation warrants an honorarium
-
A field placement where the acquisition of adaptive technologies would reduce barriers to WIL for students with disabilities
-
An entrepreneurial project (with a community or industry partner involved) where tools or resources for prototyping enable students to move their ventures forward beyond the traditional scope of the course
Note: If you don’t have a community or industry partner identified or need help framing your engagement - we can help.
Please submit your requests via the form linked to below. The deadline for request is Thursday, December 2, 2021. Submissions will be responded to by Thursday, December 9, 2021.

If you have any questions about the funding, process or if you’d like to discuss your idea, please reach out to Megan MacLean, at megmaclean@upei.ca, 902-628-4315.
The Study & Stay PEI Program (previously the Atlantic Canada Study and Stay™ - Prince Edward Island program) is designed for helping a group of select international students stay in PEI after graduation and build more connections.
As a part of Study & Stay, we have a mentorship program that facilitates a relationship between an international student and a working professional. Mentors help our international students better understand workplace culture, and make more connections on PEI. As a mentor, you will be meeting with your assigned student 4 times between February and July 2022. Meetings will typically last an hour and can be conducted in person (following the public health guidance), online, or by phone.
If you're interested to help build a more supportive community by becoming a mentor, please sign up before Dec. 20th, 2021: http://studypei.ca/.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact us at studyandstaypei@upei.ca.
