Happy New Year!! With the new year we have a new contract beginning here on campus. ISI (Interuniversity Services) has awarded the shredding contract for Maritime Universities to ShredIt.
There will be no interruption of service as ShredIt will be utilizing the consoles from our previous vendor. Shred Guard had completed their last pick up on their contract in December. We are awaiting further details about frequency and prices. We will let the campus community know as soon as we have the contract finalized with UPEI.

If you are interested in joining our monthly pick up program please contact Procurement Services at procurement@upei.ca.

Are you a geographer by training or by research interest? UPEI has an opportunity to host the 2019 Atlantic Division of the Canadian Association of Geographers (ACAG) conference in Charlottetown in the Fall of 2019. Before I provide an answer to the association I'd like to see if there are other geographers (or geographers at heart) out there who might be interested in helping host this event. If so, please contact me (Jim Randall, Island Studies, jarandall@upei.ca or 902-620-5013) by January 10th. This is a great opportunity to network with other regional faculty and graduate students who approach their research from a geographical perspective. I look forward to hearing from you.

Next meeting: Friday, Jan. 18, 12:30-1:15 pm, room AVC 280N. Dr. Paul Bernard (AVC Biomedical Sciences) will lead discussion of the article:

This article looks at optimizing rodent housing from an ethological perspective, which will be of benefit to both the animals and the science.

The Animal Welfare Journal Club meets once a month (third Friday, generally) to discuss scientific articles related to animal welfare; for eg in areas of animal welfare science, animal ethics, animal behaviour, anesthesia and analgesia, ethical veterinary practice. Everyone is welcome to attend and to propose articles for future discussion. The club is co hosted by AVC’s Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre and Animal Welfare Club. Email acrook@upei.ca or jdamico@upei.ca to be on the e-mail list for future information.
