Kimberley MacDonald (AHS-Nutrition): “Barriers Facing Prince Edward Island early years centres in implementing healthy eating guidelines”.

Pradeepa Gunasena (AHS-Kinesiology): Establishing the test-retest reliability of Contralateral Auditory Suppression of Transiently Evoked Otoacoustic Emmisions (CASTEOAE) in a cohort of normal individuals”.

Mardi Gras, Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Tuesday, call it what you will. UPEI Food and Nutrition students and members of Connection Point Church will be serving hot off the griddle pancakes 11:30-1:00.

Then come back on Wednesday to mark the beginning of the season of Lent, distribution of ashes will take place at a 12:05 pm Mass and again at a 4:00 pm Mass.

All are welcome!

All are welcome to attend Mary MacPhee's PhD Defense presentation, "The Experience of Non-Francophone Parents with Children in Minority-language Schools in Prince Edward Island: A Mixed Method Study".

The examining committee includes Dr. Jules Rocque (University of St.Boniface), Dr. Scott Lee (UPEI), Dr. Miles Turnbull (Bishops University), Dr. Marianne Cormier (University of Moncton)​, and Jane Preston (UPEI)​. The defense will be chaired by Dr. ​Tess Miller.

The planning committee for UPEI Mental Health Week 2018 has been busy putting together a week of events and information sessions to bring our community together to share, learn, and celebrate our mental health and wellness; to help end the stigma and encourage conversation on this important topic.

If you would like to volunteer 1 - 3 hours of your time staffing an information booth and/or greeting people at sessions, we would love to have you. If interested, please provide your contact information and we will be in touch with you.

Do you have plans yet for the winter break? How about taking part in some interesting professional development? For two full days on February 20th and 21st, attend a workshop that focuses around the concept of practice teaching. A small group of peer instructors get together to teach short lessons in front of each other from a prepared lesson plan in order to gain feedback on their teaching in a low-stakes and collegial environment. Sessions will also be video-recorded and participants will be provided with a copy of their sessions for later review.

Co-sponsored by the E-Learning Office and the Faculty Development Office, the workshop is designed to help enhance the teaching effectiveness of new and/or experienced educators at UPEI. Participants will also have the opportunity to work at the process of giving and receiving feedback. A light breakfast and coffee/snack breaks will be provided each day. Lunch is on your own. The Island Lecture Series is back with a new slate of speakers and presentations. Join us on Tuesday, February 13 at 7:00 pm for "Unlocking the mysteries of Prehistoric PEI".

Island filmmaker/photographer Will Beckett brings his childhood fascination with prehistoric life to the SDU Main Building Faculty Lounge. Starting at 7:00 pm he will speak about the adventures behind his upcoming Web documentary series, Prehistoric PEI.

In recognition of the outstanding performance and dedication of our faculty and staff, a number of annual awards have been created to acknowledge their efforts and achievements. 

Up to 10 Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Faculty, Librarians and Clinical Veterinary Professionals and four Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Staff will be awarded in 2018. These awards will be presented during a Celebration of Colleagues to be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. 

Susan Connolly, Associate Vice-President, Human Resources & Legal, will lead the process and chair the committee to select award recipients. 

Nominations for both faculty and staff awards close on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.

Come to the Atlantic Veterinary College this summer for an interactive, fun, and engaging venture into the world of veterinary medicine! At the college’s annual Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp, you will learn about animals, meet others who share your love of animals, and participate in fun, educational activities. You’ll get a taste of what being a veterinarian is really like!

Junior camps (grades 7–9) are scheduled for July 9–13 and July 16–20; senior camps (grades 10–12) take place from July 23–27 and July 30–August 3.

There will be a UPEI biosafety refresher training session Thursday, February 22, 2018 9:00 am to 11:30 am at the AVC, Rm 287N.

This session is required for those who attended the Basic Biosafety course in 2014 or earlier. It is not a substitute for Basic Biosafety. Topics to be covered include: a review of basic biosafety principles, a practical approach to spill cleanup, and an update on what’s new at UPEI in the field of biosafety.

To attend the Biosafety Refresher course, you must pre-register by contacting Kathryn Harrison, before February 16, 2018 at kharrison@upei.ca or 902-566-0901.

The UPEI Multicultural Song Circle meets every Tuesday in SDU Main Building Faculty Lounge from 4:30 - 5:30. This is a non-audition singing group that shares songs of the many cultures and countries on the UPEI campus for fun, friendship,relaxation, and music-making.
