In recognition of the outstanding performance and dedication of our faculty and staff, a number of annual awards have been created to acknowledge their efforts and achievements.

Up to 10 Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Faculty, Librarians and Clinical Veterinary Professionals and four Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Staff will be awarded in 2017.  These awards will be presented during a Celebration of Colleagues to be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre.

Susan Connolly, Associate Vice-President, Human Resources & Legal, will lead the process and chair the committee to select award recipients.

The AVC Wildlife Service will hold its first Midwinter Pub Night for Wildlife at Upstreet Craft Brewing, 41 Allen Street, Charlottetown, on March 2, 2017, from 7-11 pm. There will be an art raffle and silent auction to raise funds in support of ongoing updates to the outdoor wildlife facility and care for wildlife. A sample of the art work will be shown, and pre-sale tickets will be sold on Tuesday, February 28, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, in the AVC lobby near the cafeteria.

Tuesday Noon Yoga, which usually takes place at the Chaplaincy Centre, will be held in Fitness Studio #2 at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre on Tuesday, February 28.

Aleya Quilty and Mathew Larade, MSc students, will each present a seminar on Wednesday, March 01, 2017 at 12:30 pm. Aleya Quilty's presentation is entitled "Anthocyanin Derived Pigments” and Mathew Larade's presentation is entitled "Applying Neural Networks to Predict Atomic Energies: Leveraging Data for More Efficient Calculations".  The seminars will be held in the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre, Lecture Theatre, Room 212.

The Campus Life program is hosting this event for people with children. Let's Talk Science will be here to do fun experiments and projects with the kids, and we'll be showing the movie Meet The Robinsons.

Snacks will be provided, and there will be coffee and tea for parents. Current students, recently graduated students, staff, and faculty, are all invited to bring their kids/grandkids/children in their care.

Wednesday March 1 is Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten Season.  Two masses and distribution of ashes will be held at 12:05 pm and 4:00 pm.  Remember, it's a day of fasting (cutting back) and abstaining from meat for those who choose.

Join Dr. Gordon MacDonald while he discusses a proposal for a new form of government, Ikanocracy, where decision making is by a dynamic form of weighted direct democracy, and look at the mathematical and computational science behind it.

This lecture will take place Monday, February 27, 3:00 - 3:50 pm in Rm. 246, Don and Marion McDougall Hall.
