POSTPONED to April 27: 2023 Asian/Korean Studies International Speaker Series Lecture--Dr. Philip J. Ivanhoe

The UPEI Asian/Korean Studies Program is pleased to announce a special public talk by an eminent, world-class scholar for the 2023 Global Confucian Studies Speaker Series. Dr. Philip J. Ivanhoe will present a thought-provoking lecture, “Oneness, Virtue, and Happiness: Confucian, Comparative, and Contemporary Perspectives,” in the Faculty Lounge of SDU Main building.

Dr. Jin Y. Park presents a fascinating lecture, Women in Contemporary Buddhism: Reflections on Korean Zen Master Kim Iryŏp,” in the Faculty Lounge of UPEI’s SDU Main building.

The event begins with refreshments and a reception. Dr. Greg Naterer, UPEI Vice-President Academic and Research, will give the welcoming address.

UPEI administration and CUPE 1870 reach tentative deal

The University of Prince Edward Island is pleased to announce that the University and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 1870), representing UPEI support staff, have reached a tentative agreement.

The tentative deal was reached at a recent meeting of the University and CUPE 1870 bargaining teams. The University thanks all the members of the bargaining teams for their hard work and dedication through this round of bargaining.

The tentative agreement will need to be ratified by both the University and CUPE 1870 before details are publicly released.

 

Study Abroad opportunities for UPEI students at all-time high

Studying abroad can be one of the most rewarding opportunities during a university education. This school year, UPEI will have a record number of students studying abroad and hopes to see this upward trend continue. The Office of Study Abroad and International Partnerships is supporting approximately 150 students to go abroad between September 2022 and June 2023 to 18 countries around the world, such as Malta, Barbados, Belgium, Ireland, France, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Japan, Finland, and Australia.

Basin Head ecosystem restoration project focus of Island Lecture Series presentation

Marine ecologist Dr. Irené Novaczek will give a presentation about the ecosystem restoration project at Basin Head on March 21 at 7 pm in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building, UPEI. 

Basin Head was designated as a marine protected area under the federal Oceans Act in 2005 to conserve and protect a unique strain of Irish moss (Chondrus crispus), which is thought to exist only within that area.
