Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, June 21
The month of June in Canada has been officially acknowledged as National Indigenous History Month since 2009, in recognition of the rich history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada. UPEI’s Robertson Library has developed an Indigenous Resources Guide that includes articles, books, documents, websites, and other resources related to research about Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
National Indigenous Peoples Day
During National Indigenous History Month, June 21—the summer solstice—is designated as National Indigenous Peoples Day, “a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.” (Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada).

Meet Katie Nordby, Nutrition Services Manager, Dietitian, and UPEI graduate
What brought you to UPEI? In other words, why did you choose to study here?
What brought me to UPEI was the (Foods and Nutrition) program. I am from Red Lake, a small, remote community in northwestern Ontario. Ontario only has three accredited Universities for Dietetics, so I wanted to explore my options. I applied to the Foods and Nutrition program at UPEI and hoped I would later be accepted into the Integrated Dietetic Internship program. I had never been to PEI prior to moving here for school (talk about jumping in headfirst!) but I quickly grew to love it.
