New book of prayers to be launched in Charlottetown on May 17
Teilhard de Chardin: A Book of Hours, co-edited by Dr. Libby Osgood, CND, assistant professor in the UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering, and Dr. Kathleen Deignan, CND, Iona College, New York, will be launched on Wednesday, May 17, at 7:00 pm at the Charlottetown Library Rotary Room.

Dr. Larry Hammell, professor of health management, Atlantic Veterinary College at UPEI, is the recipient of the College’s 2022 Atlantic Award of Excellence in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Care.

Four poems from Laurie Brinklow’s PEI Book Award-winning poetry, My island’s the house I sleep in at night (Island Studies Press/Walleah Press), have been set to music by one of Tasmania’s best-loved composers, Don Kay. The Atlantic String Machine, with guest soloist Hannah O’Donnell, will perform the song cycle’s world premiere on Saturday, May 13, at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Church in Charlottetown as part of the final concert of their 2022-23 season entitled “Coming Together.”

The Atlantic String Machine (ASM), Prince Edward Island’s award-winning string quintet, with guest soloist Hannah O’Donnell, will perform the song cycle’s world premiere on Saturday, May 13, at 2:30 and 7:30 pm, at St. Paul’s Church in Charlottetown during the final concert of their 2022–23 season titled “Coming Together.”
National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls
On May 5, UPEI marks the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, also known as Red Dress Day. The use of red dresses was originated by Métis artist Jaime Black in 2010 as a representation of the women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people lost to violent crime. Red dresses continue to be hung across Canada in May, including on the UPEI campus, to honour those lost and to serve as a call for action to prevent future violence.
UPEI Panther Pitch live competition is May 11
On Thursday, May 11, six student teams will pitch their business for a share of $56,000 in prize money during the Panther Pitch Competition. The event, which is open to the public, will take place from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Don and Marion McDougall Hall, Room 242.
