UPEI welcomes public to its first New Year's Levee since 2020
Festive greetings and good wishes filled the air as guests were welcomed to the New Year’s Levee held by the University of Prince Edward Island and the UPEI Alumni Association on Sunday, January 1, 2023. The well-attended event, which took place in the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering Building, was the first levee held at UPEI since 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

UPEI to host annual New Year’s Levee
The University of Prince Edward Island and the UPEI Alumni Association are hosting their annual New Year's Levee, and all are welcome to attend.
The levee will be held on Sunday, January 1, 2023, from 11:30 am–1:00 pm in the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering Building, University of Prince Edward Island, 550 University Avenue, Charlottetown.
Dr. Christopher Power contributes to research about gaming and people with disabilities
Dr. Christopher Power, an associate professor with the UPEI School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, has written an article about the newest entry to the God of War series of games. In the article, he discusses how his research has contributed to creating a more level playing field for people who have disabilities in the gaming community.
Atlantic Veterinary College clears reindeer to fly
The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is pleased to report that they have cleared nine reindeer for their flight beginning on December 24.
“Over the weekend, we had the pleasure of performing large animal physical examinations on nine reindeer,” explains Dr. John VanLeeuwen, interim dean, AVC. “Although we normally don’t share patient information with the public, the owner of the reindeer felt it was in the public’s best interest to know their status for flight.”
UPEI doctoral student wins award for poster presentation of dissertation
Allegra Netten, a fourth-year student in the UPEI doctor of psychology program, recently received a prestigious award for her poster presentation of her doctoral dissertation entitled The Development and Validation of a Scale to Measure Climate Change Anxiety at the annual meeting of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) in New York City.

Newfoundland and Labrador is a global leader in the development of renewable energy. However, the electricity-generation mix differs dramatically in remote and Indigenous communities throughout the province, which remain almost exclusively reliant on diesel fuel, resulting in numerous energy inequities. While sustainable energies are often promoted for these isolated villages, emerging research demonstrates detrimental socio-economic and livelihood implications which emerge when development is led by outsiders or corporate interests.
