UPEI’s track and field program welcomes versatile jumper Jeremy Norman

While UPEI’s track and field program has found success on the track, it is in the field where they anticipate making the biggest improvement.

Panthers’ head coach Colin MacAdam hopes rookie jumper Jeremy Norman can develop into an elite competitor who will challenge for medals much like UPEI student-athlete Bailey Smith did in the 60-metre sprint in 2019.

Entrepreneurship Bootcamp

UPEI's Experiential Education Department is offering a free bootcamp to support UPEI undergraduate students develop their entrepreneurial capacity over the 2022 reading week.

Training will be facilitated by Economist Permjot Valia. Permjot’s last role before embarking on his own business journey was as Sales and Marketing Director of EY in London. Permjot became an Angel investor and a Fund Manager and became active in helping companies he had invested in to grow.

Dr. Jean Mitchell named UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability

Dr. Katherine Gottschall-Pass, interim vice-president academic and research at UPEI, has announced the appointment of Dr. Jean Mitchell as the next UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability at the University. Dr. Mitchell is an associate professor of anthropology at UPEI with extensive research and project experience in Indonesia, India, and the South Pacific nations of Kiribati, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.

AVC small animal surgeon receives PEI Veterinary Medical Association Leadership Award

Dr. Katie Hoddinott, assistant professor of small animal surgery, Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, has received the PEI Veterinary Medical Association’s (PEIVMA) Leadership Award.

The award recognizes a veterinarian’s strong career of achievement and dedication to the profession, their community, and the health and welfare of animals.

COVID-19 is a dynamic situation and UPEI will continue to communicate to students, staff, and faculty as soon as possible when the PEI Chief Public Health Office (PEI-CPHO) issues new guidance or implements restrictions that impact the University.

UPEI E-Learning team awarded COVID Warrior Coins for supporting faculty and students

The members of UPEI’s E-Learning team—Jason Hogan, Joel MacDonald, and Kristy McKinney—have been awarded COVID Warrior Coins for their work to support faculty members when UPEI had to switch very quickly to online learning in the middle of the 2020 winter semester because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They also received the award for their involvement in the re-boot of teaching methods, course design, and use of educational technologies required for the 2020–2021 academic year.
