AVC White Coat Ceremony and Awards Presentation 2011

AVC's White Coat Ceremony & Awards Night will take place on Friday, May 6, 2011 in the Homburg Theatre, Confederation Centre of the Arts, Charlottetown, PEI, beginning at 4:30 p.m. AVC's White Coat Ceremony is truly memorable and moving, and is the highlight of the academic year. During the ceremony, members of the AVC Class of 2011 will make the official and public passage from veterinary students to Doctors of Veterinary Medicine.

HITS for Education 2011

Harnessing Images, Text, and Sound (HITS) for Education: Culture, Multimedia, Technology and Cognition will take place from July 26-28, 2011 at the University of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island Canada.  The goal is to create a forum during where researchers and experts, potentially from around the world, will  present data and theory on the use of multimedia in education, stimulate scholarly discussion, and develop policy-relevant approaches and analysis for decision-makers and leaders in education.  A further aim of the conference is to provide the foundation for the book that will synthesize the content of the presentations. With Voices--We Unite

Join us for our annual workshop, full of exciting and stimulating activities and discussion! Further event details to follow. Background: AIRS is a seven-year major research initiative aiming to understand individual, cultural, and universal influences on singing and the influences of singing on individuals and societies. In cooperation of over 70 researchers representing every province in Canada and 15 other countries on 6 continents, individuals will share their knowledge and expertise from numerous perspectives, including psychology, musicology, music therapy, education, sociology, folklore and medicine. There are three major themes that AIRS focuses on: (1) Development of singing ability (2) Singing and Learning (3) Enhancement of Health and well-being through singing. These themes may be regarded respectively as defining what singing behaviours there are possible given mental, physiological and environmental constraints; what singing behaviours occur in practice, and what are societal implications of singing. Dissemination of research findings will provide a foundation for decision making in education, health, culture, immigration, and foreign policy. Website: www.airsplace.ca

Engineering Design Expo and Awards Ceremony

The 2011 UPEI Engineering Design Expo and Awards Ceremony is taking place on Friday, April 15. Nine (9) different teams will present their projects including highlights of the problems, analysis, and recommended solutions. They have come up with some pretty cool looking designs!! This event takes place in McMillan Hall, with the Expo running from 1:00-4:00pm followed by the Engineers PEI reception from 4:15-5:15 and finished by the awards ceremony from 5:30-7:00. UPEI 3rd Annual Dump n' Run

Currently there are collection sites on campus, in each of the residences, collecting items that would generally be tossed at the end of the academic year by students (e.g., used furniture, clothing, books, sports equipment, and kitchen ware). This Saturday we will be selling all collected items in a yard-sale fashion from 8:00am - 12:00pm. Last year we were successful in diverting more than 1,000 pounds of items from waste! All proceeds from the Dump n' Run go to helping with 2011 Environmental Society initiatives. It’s free admission, and beginning at 9:00am another group will be partnering with us to sell used jewerly, all proceeds going to aid Japan following the past month’s earthquakes.
