The UPEI Health & Wellness Centre is offering two mass immunization clinics in partnership with Public Health Nursing at our clinic, second floor, Murphy Centre North (above the book store). The clinics will be held on October 22nd 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and repeated on November 1st from 12:00 - 5:00 pm and no need for an appointment - just drop in. Flu shots are free and available to all faculty, staff and students. Ask about other immunizations that you might need such as tetanus booster - we could make a follow-up appointment.
Anyone interested in finding out information about UPEI's JV Hockey program that plays in the Island Women's Hockey League please attend. The event is Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00 pm in room 212 of UPEI's Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre.

Interested in Indigenous cultures? UPEI's Master in Global Affairs will be hosting a presentation by Wise Elder Doña Sonia Catepillán Guinao (Chile). We invite all interested students and the community to attend the Skype presentation during which Doña Sonia will share her experience growing up as an Indigenous Williche woman in southern Chile. All are invited. The presentation will take place Wednesday October 3 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm in SDU Main Building, Room 211 (UPEI Campus). Light refreshments will be served. Indian Horse follows the story of Saul, a young hockey player, from his life with his family in Northern Ontario, into residential school, and beyond where he finds fame as a hockey player. Based on the book by Richard Wagamese. Alma MacDougall,Elder, will be introducing the film. Open to the campus community. This event is 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 3 in room 135 of Duffy Science Centre.

Topics to be covered include basic biosafety principles and how they are applied at the University of Prince Edward Island, as well as biosecurity training. This session is open to everyone including graduate students.
Please note: those who attended training in 2015 or earlier are currently due for the Biosafety Refresher Course.
To attend the Basic Biosafety course, you must pre-register by contacting Kathryn Harrison, before October 8, 2018 by email (kharrison@upei.ca) or by phone (902-566-0901).

UPEI is aligning functional areas that are related to student affairs and the recruitment/registration process into the recently renovated Dalton Hall—our new Student Experience Hub! And with renovations to the over 100-year-old Dalton Hall now complete, it means it’s moving time! The physical transition of office locations will take place in a staged process over two weeks so that there will be no disruption in services. Starting Monday, October 1 at 8:00 am (week 1) the following moves will take place:
1. Student Affairs (from W.A. Murphy Student Centre to Dalton Hall, 5th floor)
2. Accessibility Services (from W.A. Murphy Student Centre to Dalton Hall, 1st floor)
3. Mawi'omi Centre (from Kelley Memorial Building to Dalton Hall, 5th floor)

Flags at UPEI will be flown at half-mast on Sunday, September 30 to commemorate Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day. In 1998, the Government of Canada officially proclaimed the last Sunday of September of every year as National Memorial Day to give Canadians an opportunity each year to formally express appreciation for the dedication of police and peace officers, which made the ultimate tragic sacrifice to keep our communities safe.

Author of Live Close to Home (2016); Technology and Sustainability (2014); Gift Ecology: Reimagining a Sustainable World (2012), Dr. Denton will present a lively and dynamic discussion on Living Close to Home: Local Choices for a Sustainable Future.
About Dr. Denton:
Dr. Peter Denton works in the social, cultural and ethical dimensions of technology in multi-disciplinary contexts. He chairs the Policy Committee of the Green Action Centre and has been involved in UN Environment since 2012 as a civil society representative and as a contributing author to the GEO 6 North American Regional Assessment (2016). Dr. Denton is a principal consultant at greenethics.ca, inc., and holds multiple degrees, including a PhD in Religion and the Social Sciences from McMaster University. He is also an ordained minister in the United Church of Canada. He currently teaches history of technology at the University of Winnipeg and is an Adjunct Associate Professor of History at the Royal Military College of Canada.
This event is co-sponsored by UPEI Environmental Studies Program and the Kirk of St. James. It is a free, public event. All are welcome.
