Tentative agreement reached with CUPE 501

After negotiations on August 10–11, UPEI reached a tentative agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees 501 (CUPE 501). We want to thank both bargaining teams for their work in reaching a timely agreement and for their professionalism and respect throughout the process.

The tentative agreement with CUPE 501 is subject to ratification by both parties. Once ratified, it will form the new collective agreement between UPEI and CUPE 501.

The Alexander Drive Project Book Launch

Post-war bungalows, also known as “victory houses,” were built across Canada to house returning veterans and their families. The Alexander Drive Project by PEI artist and author Sandy Kowalik tells the story of one such neighbourhood built in 1948 in Charlottetown. Published by Island Studies Press, the book will be launched on September 16, at 7 pm, in the Faculty Lounge, Main Building Room 201, University of Prince Edward Island.

Musical Waves–Celebrating Music and the Mind concert

In conjunction with the conference Music and the Mind–Maritimes held today, a free concert celebrating music in many styles performed by Island musicians will take place in Steel Recital Hall at 7 pm. Performers include pianists Dr. Frances Gray, Kevin (Ruilin) Xia, Yuxuan (Tony) Liang, Megaria Halim; vocalists Neethu Saras Jose, Raisa Shaheed and Lian Camargo (recorded), Queer Choir PEI directed by Al Kelly; singer songwriter/guitarists Tony Reddin and Kevin Ryan; flautist Amy LeBlanc, and cellist Nathalie Williams Calhoun. All are welcome.

UPEI president opens fourth annual Global Mental Well-being and Substance (Mis)Use Conference

UPEI President and Vice-Chancellor Wendy Rodgers opened the fourth annual Global Mental Well-being and Substance (Mis)Use Conference at the W.A. Murphy Student Centre on Friday, July 31.

Hosted by the New African Canadians organization, the conference took place from July 30 to August 4, covering the theme of Families. Communities. Futures. 

Dr. Rodgers said that community building, well-being, wellness, and attention to health and well-being challenges such as substance abuse and mental health are critical to understanding and supporting people in communities. 

UPEI welcomes international cohort for intensive real estate management course

The University of Prince Edward Island’s McDougall Faculty of Business (MFoB) recently offered an intensive two-week International Real Estate Management course led by business professor Dr. Jürgen Krause. Modelled after UPEI’s Maymester program, where UPEI students take an experiential-learning-based short course abroad, this course was delivered in reverse, bringing together an international cohort of 32 university students from EBZ Business School in Bochum, Germany, and three students from UPEI in Charlottetown.
