Would you like to learn more about employment opportunities with the federal government? The Veterans Affairs Canada Student Ambassador at UPEI will help you access federal employment opportunities and navigate the application process for student programs like the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP). UPEI students succeed at 2026 Actuarial Students’ National Association Convention

Fourteen actuarial science students from UPEI’s School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences attended the 2026 Actuarial Students’ National Association (ASNA) Convention, held in Ottawa from January 15 to 18.

Five of those students—Yixiao He, Grace Ngayo, Lea Nkombe, Olamipo Amusa, and Kiana Philpott—represented UPEI in the final round of the ASNA Case Competition. The team members, who were coached by SMCS faculty members Dr. Pouya Faroughi and Dr. Yechao Meng, received word earlier in January that they were one of only three teams to advance to the final round.

TLC Lunch and Learn: AI and Academic Dishonesty: Reframing the Narrative

The availability of large language models (LLMs) and other forms of (generative) artificial intelligence has challenged instructors to re-think and re-tool their course exercises and assessments. While many instructors acknowledge that students' uncritical reliance on such tools may discourage fundamental knowledge acquisition and skill development, entrench social biases, and contribute to societal, ethical, and environmental injustices, many also understand (all too painfully) the difficulties of persuading students to invest time, effort, and energy into their own learning.
