Poetry Reading
UPEI is pleased to welcome Island native Zachariah Wells and Vancouver’s Rachel Lebowitz who will be reading from their new books of poetry at The Big Orange Lunchbox restaurant on Sunday, November 17 at 7:00 pm. Wells’ previous book, Track & Trace, was shortlisted for the Atlantic Poetry Prize, and Lebowitz’s first book, Hannus was shortlisted for the 2007 Roderick Haig-Brown Regional BC Book Prize and the Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction.
The book launch and reading by these vibrant poets is sponsored by the UPEI English Department. A reception and book signing will follow. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.
PEIANC Information Session
Join the PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada (PEIANC) for an information session on the PEIANC’s services for international students on Thursday November 8 from 10:00am-2:00pm in “The Pit” in the Robertson Library building.
International students are encouraged to visit the booth to gain information and assistance on their immigration and settlement needs. PEIANC will be available to answer questions, provide information, and also to register students with the PEIANC. Those students wishing to register with the PEIANC must bring their passport and immigration documents.

Presentation - Canadian Space Agency Astronaut David Saint-Jacques
Student Affairs in partnership the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, is pleased to host a presentation from Canadian Space Agency Astronaut David Saint-Jacques. Dr. Saint-Jacques will take you on the learning journey that led him to become a Canadian astronaut and talk about his training. He will also give an overview of Canadian Space Agency projects and will share some insights on some of the future opportunities for students.
David was selected in May 2009 as one of two members of the third Canadian Astronaut selection. He is one of 14 members of the 20th NASA astronaut class. In 2011, David graduated from Astronaut Candidate Training and is now eligible for spaceflight.
Most recently, he has been assigned as Crew Support Astronaut for Expedition 36/37 and is a Capcom at NASA’s Mission Control Center, the voice between the ground and the International Space Station. David continues to build and maintain his skills through spacewalk, robotics, Russian and flight training.
Human Biology and Environmental Sciences Seminar
The Biology Department will host a Human Biology and Environmental Sciences Seminar on November 8, by Dr. Russell Wyeth from the Biology Department, St. Francis Xavier University.
Dr. Wyeth will present: “Attraction and avoidance in the ocean: making a stink about sprinting slugs and meddlesome squirts.”
All are welcome to attend.

Stacey Goldberg, Department of Biomedical Sciences will present a seminar called "Molecular Approach to Identify Bioactive Brominated Natural Products from Marine Sponges" on Tuesday, November 12 at 3:30 pm in AVC Lecture Theatre C.

Blood Donor Clinic
The next blood donor clinic will be at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre on November 12 from 5:00–8:00 pm. This is an important clinic because of the decline in donors during the cold & flu season, and with the November 11 long weekend.
This is an evening clinic for a change with convenient hours. Please take a few minutes of your time, to give someone in need of blood, a lifetime.
