Graduate Research on Tap

UPEI is expanding its popular series of public discussions with UPEI researchers to highlight the exciting exploration and discovery by graduate students. The first ever Graduate Research on Tap is Tuesday, November 19 at 7:00 pm in the Wave in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The first discussion will be led by Hailey Lambe, a masters of biology student and research assistant with the PEI Urban Fox Research Project. Her talk is titled: The Trials and Tribulations of Tracking Red Foxes in the City. Bonnie Stewart, a PhD student in the Faculty of Education, will lead the second discussion of the evening, entitled The Rules of Engagement: When Scholars Meet Social Media. Sound interesting? Presented by the UPEI Student Union, the UPEI Graduate Student Association, and the Vice-President Research and Graduate Studies.

President's University Update

President and Vice-Chancellor Alaa Abd-El-Aziz invites the campus community to attend a University Update on Thursday, November 28 from 2:00-4:00pm in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. Join the president, your colleagues, and community members in conversation about the priorities, role, and direction of the University. Your voice is important. All are welcome.

Kevin MacLean in Concert

On Friday, November 15 at 7:30 pm, saxophonist Kevin MacLean will perform as part of the UPEI Concert Series. “Worldly Inspirations” will feature music from England, Japan, the United States, and Prince Edward Island. MacLean will collaborate with Frances McBurnie, Karem Simon, Branden Kelly, and perform a world premiere by composer Dr. Rick Covey. MacLean has most recently been concerto soloist with the UPEI Wind Symphony and the PEI Symphony. Past performances include the World Association of Bands and Ensembles Conference, North American Saxophone Alliance Conference, and the National Music Festival. He is currently the saxophone instructor at UPEI. United Way Campaign Kick-off

UPEI is proud to be a part of the 2013 United Way campaign. Join the campus community for the campaign kick-off event on Thursday, November 14 from 11:30 am-1:30 pm in McMillan Hall for food, prizes, a tug-of-war challenge (Student Union executive versus senior administration), live music, and information from United Way PEI. This year United Way PEI was able to fund 23 programs that assist individuals across the island due to the generous support of Islanders. RETI Annual Meetings

The Master of Arts in Island Studies program is pleased to announce that it will host the Reseau d’excellence des territoires insulaires (RETI) annual meetings, a consortium of 24 island universities. The theme of the event this year will be Livable Islands: Culture, Politics, Economy and Environment. It will consist of four components: July 4–5: A Symposium/Conference Learn about the most recent island-based research from presentations by international faculty and graduate students. July 5: Meeting of the Governing Committee of RETI A meeting of University Presidents/Rectors from the 24 member universities around the world. July 6: A Field Trip A guided tour of Prince Edward Island. Explore the physical and cultural geography of this beautiful island. July 7–9: Summer School Internationally-recognized scholars in island studies will provide in-depth instruction to graduate students on the most pressing island-based issues. Bam!!: An Evening of David Ives One Act Plays

This November, the UPEI Theatre Society is pleased to present “BAM!! A Night of David Ives One Act Plays!” This show will feature three comedic one act plays written by *David Ives*, organized by a number of talented UPEI students. This production enjoys a three show run on* November 14th, 15th, and 16th *in the Faculty Lounge in Main Building at the UPEI Campus. The *doors open at 7pm with a 7:30 showtime. Admission is only available at the door, costing *five dollars per person.
